Not to mention the fact that it is illegal and many individuals have been ripped off/beaten up.

Nope - just the negative impact on tourism.

And what does that do, to stop the scams?

YES thats also my query.

Amidst few questions:

- What do the police know about ski jets?

- What were they looking for?

- what are the new measures? could this be posted in Thai, English and Russian on the beaches

- What are the restrictions or dangers to foreigners.... or is this left to the police to interpret and the foreign ends up paying two parties.

Some suggestions:

1. Operators of Jetski:

What a fantastic "Bandaid" fix that will scare the pants off those jet ski scammers for a few minutes at least.

How about the police setting up a hotline number and a designated task force who come in heavy and eliminate (not investigate BS) and seperate the standoff period and fine the operators for scamming.

The existing number for the tourist police and their involvement is a joke, all they do is eat donuts and watch tv and point you in other directions.

All jetski's should have mandatory large stickers on each side of their jetskis clearly advertising the hotline number and any that don't be heavily fined or their jet skis confiscated from their business for a few days.

If they were serious about it they would do more, ..oops the Bandaid just fell off in the water.

Just get rid of them all , as not all tourists hire one .. And the mayor talks about Pattaya will be as good as the French city of NICE or the U.S city of Miami. Tell me something isn't prostitution illegal in Thailand ? And there is nothing wrong with the jet ski operators?

One suspects they will do these inspections for a couple of weeks then accounce to great fanfare that they cant find any evidence of jet ski scam's and the tourists are obviously delusional...problem solved

And the police can go back to collecting money from the Jet Ski Operators.

Seriously, did any of you expect anything different? the best you can do is not use the jet ski's and warn other tourists not to use them either! If you're accused of throwing the baby out with the bathwater then, push the honest operators to remove the dishonest operators out of the area! The solution is in the hands of the honest operators...meanwhile continue to warn every tourist you see who is about to use their service that they will probably be ripped off! IMHOsad.png

Officials Get Serious About New Jet Ski Rules

PATTAYA:--Several Pattaya jet ski operators were found in violation of the new jet ski rules during a random check by officials on Pattaya Beach. They were ordered to fix the violations. Officials will be making weekly random checks of Pattaya and Jomtien beaches to monitor jet ski operators to curb tourist rip-offs.

PATTAYA – September 27, 2012 [PDN]: A random check of jet ski operators at Pattaya beach was conducted by Mr. Ronnakij Ekasing, vice president of Muang Pattaya and the chairman of the committee for solving the problems about Pattaya jet ski renters; Pol. Col. Thammanoon Mankong, director of Muang Pattaya police station; Mr. Pongthasit Pichanan, the general secretary of Prevention and Suppression division of Banglamung district; Mr. Ekaraj Kantharo, the professional authority of the marine department; Mr. Adisorn Phollook-inta, consultant of the minister of the Labor and Social Welfare ministry; and other related enforcement officers.

The VIPs came to Pattaya beach to randomly check the jet ski operators to solve problems and make the rental owners more accountable for their actions, in order to sustain and stabilize the industry. Pol. Col. Thammanoon said that this new patrolling to randomly check in the area will now be a common practice by authorities whose concern is to prevent dishonest operators from exploiting tourists.

The random check revealed that some jet skis had not been registered with the city, and since the jet skis were being used in service, the owners were found guilty.

Just meetings on the beach like this don't solve the problem law they need to be under surveillance all the time and regulations enforced the moment some one steps out of line but it wont happen .

No mention of insurance are they still allowing uninsured jet ski's to operate. ?

I agree all rentals going out and coming in should be on camera and available to the customer and the police when necessary, or when a problem arises. It should be part of the licensing program and would actually probably increase business.

why not have done hiring some farang people and showing up when a problem occurs and impounding directly the jetski's and imprison the scammers ??? that would bring some fear into those crooks, but noooooooooooooooooooooo

like them farangs they get to go into the short time rooms with the marked money.....then they all run in after he's had a go....that's a shake down my friend this is a show of face to reduce the loss of it thumbsup.gif

They don't have to use soluble wax or paint to disguise existing damage.

The take a picture of the tourist on the jet ski, then Photoshop/clone over the damage while the tourist is out on the water.

When the tourist returns, they show an undamaged jet ski photo to the tourist and accuse him of the pre-existing damage.

Saw it myself, right on the beach, a lady with a notebook working with the jet ski gang.
