PHETCHABURI: -- Phetchaburi Governor Winai Buapradit has instructed the provincial employment office to file charges of hiring aliens to work and trafficking in humans against Dr Supat Laohawattana.

Police General Hospital reported yesterday that its tests showed that the three skeletons exhumed from the plantation owned by the scandal-hit doctor, who used to work at the hospital, were not of the couple who went missing after a quarrel with him.

Samart Numjui and Orasa Kerdsaploey are feared dead after their reported dispute with Colonel Supat three years ago. Samart's father lodged a police complaint against Supat for allegedly murdering the couple. Later the couple's vehicle was found near a Nonthaburi house linked to Supat. Then the buried skeletons were discovered.

Winai called for the probe of the Myanmar man known as Kala, who claimed to have worked for Supat and was abused by him.

If Kala's story was found true, Supat would also be charged with hiring an alien worker and trafficking in people, said Supamas Kreunak, director of the Phetchaburi employment office.

It was then found that Kala had no work permit or papers, so officials contacted Tha Mai Reuk police to file the charge of hiring an alien worker against Supat and his third wife Wilsa Chanbancha by today. As for filing the charge of illegal entry against Kala, who was now in police custody as a key state witness against Supat in the alleged murders, she said it was the police's responsibility to do that, while the Social Development and Human Security Office would consider filing the charge of human trafficking later.

Lt-General Jongjet Aojanepong, director of Police General Hospital, said DNA tests confirmed the first skeleton was not Samart or Orasa. It was a male aged about 17-18 and was 168-172 centimetres tall. He died over a year ago.

"The second skeleton belonged to a man aged 40-50. It could not be associated with Samart who disappeared when he was around 26 or 27," Jongjet said. "From the examination of this skeleton, we have found that the victim was shot in the head."

Jongjet told the press conference said the third skeleton should belong to a man or women aged only 18-19. This victim was also shot. "The age doesn't match that of Samart or Orasa," he said.

The DNA tests were being conducted to determine if there was any connection between these two victims and the relatives of Samart and Orasa. The relatives of other missing people could also come forward to request DNA tests on these three skeletons.

"The DNA tests are 99 per cent accurate," he said.

Records showed that Supat took Kala to the hospital for treatment between August 5 and August 23 of last year after Kala reportedly fell from a tree.

"His spine was broken and he became partially paralysed. Kala, so far, has said his injuries were the result of an accident, not any physical abuse," Jongjet said. Earlier this month, Kala spoke up against his boss, Supat, describing him as a violent and murderous man.

Samart's father Sawang said after the DNA test of first skeleton confirmed it wasn't his son that he accepted the doctors' test results but he still believed it was his son and would continue to look for his daughter-in-law.

Dr Jekkyl? They may have to 'dig' deeper as the property may well have a few skeletons in the 'closet'. The common factor seems to be 'lead poisoning' (bullets to the head). Either way it's a dastardly deed from Dr Death.
