Ed Extension Due And No Documents

Featured Replies

I have had four extensions in the first fourteen months of my ED visa and attended the Ministry of Education for the mandatory interview a few weeks ago. My last permission to stay expires on Tuesday 2nd October - obtained at Chaengwattana - and the school say they have not received the okay from the Ministry of Education yet. They are due to go to the Ministry and check on Tuesday when they may or may not find they can issue me with documents for the next extension.

A member of staff suggested I either drift into overstay and hope the docs turn up from the Ministry before things get too expensive in terms of overstay fines or I take a quick trip to Laos (or my preference would be short break to KL or Singapore and get 30days on return). I'm not sure what the repercussions of a visa run would be for the ED visa which was stamped as used on entry a year or so ago and validity expired in July.

I also wonder if it's possible to go to CW and get a 7 day extension (1900THB) as one can with tourist entries/visas?

I have 100% attendance at school (4hrs/week) and feel I did pretty well at the MoE interview BTW.

Any suggestions on how to proceed in the event documents don't materialize will be greatly appreciated.

Wait for approval and immediately apply for extension on Tuesday or for extension of stay that day (they can supply 7 days to pack out on application even when not approved so that would give you an extra week). If you have to leave you will have to obtain a new ED visa so would require school paperwork for that. Getting 30 day visa exempt entry will not remove the need to obtain a new non immigrant ED visa if your current extensions end.

Thanks Lopburi, so I can get at least seven day extension no matter what.

Therefore, On Tuesday I go to CW with or without docs and, if the latter, get a 7 day extension and hope for the best in the coming week...

This would have the advantage of bringing me back into synch with my 90 reporting which are now 19 days apart. I assume (?!) if I report, say, 10 days early my next report will be 90 days from that day and not 90 days from the last due day?

Many thanks, Lopburi, not just for this but for all your efforts on this board.

Yes reporting in person early will make the next 90 day report due 90 days from reporting date. You can always reset with s step across the border (but would need a re-entry permit to keep extension alive).
