Moving To Bangkok

Featured Replies

I am planning to move to bkk in mid October. I have been here on holiday many times but only stayed in hotels in the lower sois of Sukhumvit. I have a few friends who rent apartments in the Thong Lo and Phrom Phong areas. I am looking for a place to rent near them but trying to find something I like, preferably a 2 bedroom, and in my price range, below 30 000 bhatt, is proving quite hard. Does anyone out there know of any good websites I could search on.

I have found many suitable places nearer On Nut or Phloen Chit areas. I have never been here and I was wondering what these areas are like? Are there plenty of bars and restaurants? Do a lot of expats live here? How long would it take me to travel to Thong Lo or Phrom Phong.

Any advice or comments would be much appreciated. Or if anyone can suggest a better area to stay please let me know

Some people would advise you to stay away from the "expat ghetto" of mid Sukhumvit, I live in Thonglor and we are very content.

There are places around within your budget, I live in a 97sm, two bedroom, newly refurbished, condo and I pay 28,000 including all the common charges. It's an older block which typically have larger rooms and realistically priced, seems most people like the newer boxes.

When we were looking we stayed in a local hotel and went round the sois, I then had a motorbike, looking for suitable condos, the office usually have a list of condos for rent.

There are agents but they charge the owners a fee, which is built into your rent.

Depends on what kind of bars or restaurants you like. In Onnut there are no (farang)bars, it' s all thai and a very good place to start living in thailand. But you have to adapt. I've grown accustomed to the thai way of living whilst living in Onnut. The appartments are low price and the skytrain will take you to your friends quickly. If i would want an apartment like yourself i would go there first and look around and talk to the management of the desired building instead of browsing the internet.
