Plodprasob

BANGKOK: -- Responding to a statement from Science Minister Plodprasob Surassawadee calling on Bangkok residents to take a three-day break from work next week in case of heavy flooding in the city, the Meteorological Department said it was not needed and that carrying an umbrella would be enough by the weekend.

"People living in coastal areas should use caution and monitor weather reports, but evacuation is not necessary at present," said deputy director-general Somchai Baimuang.

Last year, Plodprasob earned a reputation for making exaggerated statements on the flood situation and issuing unnecessarily alarming warnings. One statement during the middle of the crisis announcing a violent flash flood in Nonthaburi prompted a large-scale evacuation of residents, but the event never happened.

In response to Somchai's announcement, Plodprasob later said his suggestion of a break from work followed a standard used in the West, so that "people stay home, and away from dangers, while officials can fully carry out their relief operations".

According to Somchai, Tropical Storm Gaemi will transform into a less devastating tropical depression upon its scheduled arrival in Thailand tomorrow, causing heavy rain in the Central, lower North and East, covering several hundred square kilometres, before passing out of Thailand on Monday.

Where in the west do governments say stay home from work because of bad weather? (except when it's -30C outside)

Plodprasob: "Run Away. Run Away."

.......talk about 'casual remarks'.....'in passing'.....

....what do the employees do about their salaries......

....what do the employers do about business.....salaries....etc....

(....can anyone be definite about anything.....except for how they will dole out huge amounts of money to unknown recipients....for unknown services...)

I'd love to take three days off work (on ANY reason), but unfortunately i don't have as much money as this minister (or any minister in thailand) has been reported to possess... :(

us 'normal mortals' really have to work for our money.

This guy is just a joke. coffee1.gif

MoST Plodprasop simply warns for the impending disaster which will cause the need for the government to carry out relief operations.

Let's set up another Joint Assembly on Coordination of Known and Assumed Serious Situations smile.png

The other paper is reporting that Yingluck is in charge of flood relief operations.

(she would be the head J.A.C.K.A.S.S.)

Problems should be eased as it's school holidays now for a month. Now we are lead to understand that (university timetables) will be adjusted - so that means students will have to go to uni in the wettest and also the hottest months. Those holidays are in October and April for a reason.

Meaning that she would have finally found the place whereby she can excel as she is so well qualified for this position!!!!clap2.gif.

Is she trying to break the world record for setting up committee's and sub committee's??? Any problem that arises is delegated to one of these entities. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there are separate committees for choosing her breakfast, lunch and evening meal every day!!!! Maybe a sub committee to choose the colour of her toilet paper!!

Review Minister Plodprasob positions and the result of his works, which coincide with the PM, big brother and their other close henchmen, fleecing the country and there seems to be a definite trend. He somehow manages to keep increasing his accumulation of wealth, while continually leaving the same result as the proverbal 'bull in a china shop'. In his case it appears that we could add mean tempered, club footed, a bad case of scours and has passed his 'use by date' as a individual description of his pass thru each station.

While I agree with the above, let's not forget that Mr Plodprasop is always good for a laugh & has provided plenty of entertainment here on TV. As far as the serious side of flooding goes, no one believes him anyway. At least the animals in the Chiang Mai Night Safari are a bit better off now.

Picked this up off of my Chiang Mai Expat news letter. If unhallowed Mods please remove.

Make what you can of it.

Yeap, if there is a flood in Bangkok on Monday, don't forget your umbrella.

I think Plodprasob is working with NASA on the side. Why don't the people just go on trustworthy farlang weather sites online like weatherunderground.com? They give you precise tracking history, storm measurements, current location, etc. all at the click of the mouse. I see a couple of barriers, it is in English and of course it is Farlang technology.

No rain yesterday morning in Nontaburi Prachaniwet, as well as in Bangna and Samut Prakan. I just woke up this morning and its a moderate weather so far.

So I think Plodprasop's "timing was a little off..."

Weather Underground shows that it will be centred around Siem Reap at 9pm tonight, so Eastern areas will probably start being affected then.

Would be funnier if around 600 people didn't die during the previous floods were the (expletive deleted) in question mismanaged to his heart's content.

Sorry, but I have to disagree: This guy is a very very very bad joke only - but Plod made himself becoming very very very rich ... Amazing corruption ;-)

They also promised, during the election campaign, that there wouldn't be flooding last year... rolleyes.gif
