Nicest Towns Near Bangkok With Immigration Offices?

Featured Replies

Rather than spend half a day going to Immigration in Bangkok to apply for the 30-day extension of my 60-day tourist visa, I was thinking of taking the chance to get out of Bangkok and visit another town nearby where the lines are hopefully shorter.

1) Any suggestions on scenic places within 4 hours of Bangkok that would be nice to spend 2-3 days (and have an Imm. office)?

2) Is there any reason this would be a bad idea?

No reason why it would be a bad idea. But there are lots of places within 4 hours of Bangkok with an immigration office.

You want to go more inland or go to the sea?

Either one, I'd just like a personal recommendation. Someplace you or someone thinks would be a particularly nice place to spend 2-3 days. Doesn't have to be fun city. Speaking of which, NOT Pattaya.

If I had to be more specific, I'd say ideally someplace with either a natural or historical monument or some outdoor activity opportunity.

Ayudhtaya, is nice in history. About an hour from bangkok , a little longer if by train.

Sukhothai will alos be nice, but about 5 hours. Which can be combined with Pithsanulok, about and hour away and Nakon Sawan.

And while you're in that neck of the woods go to Sri Sachanalai.

Korat? Pimai, and more, including Khao Yai.

Wow, my first post and I got so many good replies...

All of the places above are really cool--I've either been to them and enjoyed them or am waiting to go with friends. I didn't realize places like that had Immigration offices.

Lonely Planet recommends a day trip to Samut Sakhon/Mahachai with a stop in Amphawa. The Immigration website says there's a checkpoint in

17 Moo3 Amphoe Mueang

Changwat Samutsakhon

What do you guys think of there? Keep in mind, I only want to sleep 1-2 nights.

I see you have found the list of immigration offices on the website of the Immigration Bureau (they call them immigration checkpoints), your current interest being in the offices in the Central area. If you need help finding the exact location of a particular office, there is a marker for many of them on this Google Map: http://maps.google.c...d91df360b&msa=0

I think that list of immigration offices is incomplete. Sri Racha is not on it. It is, I believe, a full immigration office.

There are checkpoints at Laem Chabang port, Ao Udom port and Ko Sichang port but they would not be authorised to extend tourist visas but Sri Racha definitely would.

You are right, the Immigration Bureau is very slow in updating that list of immgration offices or perhaps have stopped updating it altogether. If they have another page with an up-to-date list, I can't find it.
