Burma’s Ministry of Electric Power has authorized private investment in power production as part of its effort to ease nationwide shortages, according to a report by The New Light of Myanmar on Sunday.  The ministry set limits on how much electricity private investors will be able to produce for public consumption, and will strive to ensure competitiveness among those entering the industry, the report said. According to the ministry, domestic demand for electricity has reached 1,890 megawatts (MW) due to rising consumption, while the country’s actual supply is just 1,500 MW.
