Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhh! Truevisions You Are Ruining My Life!

Well maybe an exaggeration, but these small things just send me into a rage. Big things I can deal with calmly, but when the small things don't go right I get far to angry. What is it? Boardwalk Empire, here in Thailand I find tv quite dull, so when a series comes on that I like, it becomes a highlight of the day.

BE I enjoy a lot, so I was very happy when season 3 started. Last night I went out when it was on, but no worries the TV guide said it would be repeated today at 10am. All fine and dandy, except its not on, The Newsroom is. <deleted>, now the whole season is ruined as this is just episode 2 which I cannot watch.

Brilliant Truevisions! You are a class apart!

Truly pissed off.

Ps. Why is it the small things make me want to rip people's faces off, but real dramas I stay calm??

It is Truevision. I can assure you with 100% certainty they will repeat it again, and again and again over the next month or so. it is why I cancelled mine.

I went out and bought a PSI box for 1000 baht for the wife to watch Thai TV and the 3000 Baht I save every month now keeps me in cold beers thumbsup.gif

What is a PSI box, and is it good for anything except Thai TV?

Actually in my experience it is always all the stuff you missed that you do want them to repeat that they never do. Murphy's True Vision's Law.

People still bother with TV? Hook your computer or laptop to a big screen via HDMI cable and watched your downloaded stuff on a big screen with no problems! wink.png

Downloading is all fine and good until it comes to live sport. If you aren't interested in it, that's fine, but if you are, you still need a TV. No way round it or round True Visions... but g_d i wish there was a way!

2,000 odd baht a month is a silly amount to pay, but they have me by the short and curlies...

The PSI box has around 60 channels. A couple of English language ones. Mainly for the Thai soaps and news. I had the Platinum package with two boxes and it was just under 3000 a month. I watched the odd Hells kitchen and the F1 and that was it. I found it hard to justify it for so little viewing. Now I go watch the F1 in a bar with the 3000 I saved or download it the next day and watch it.

That might work for you but as an avid F1 follower myself, i've done all the going to bars, trying to find and bagsy a decent seat, straining to hear the commentary above the sound of the drunk sitting next to me, barman suddenly changing channels, stuff before, and going back to that would not be what i would call progress, although yes, might save some money.

I am like you an avid fan. I try to get to at least two races each year. The last race I downloaded the HD version of the race and watched it Monday morning rather than Sunday afternoon. I actually preferred this way to UBC as I got the British commentary and pre race programme rather than that t@sser Slater that is on UBC. wink.png

first thing you have said thus far that i agree with whole heartedly.

Only problem with that is, no matter who is commentating, the race is always more enjoyable with live timing, so i pretty much have to watch it liv.

Slater can barely read a live timing screen. One wonders at times if we is actually watching the race from a shop window

I have nothing but admiration for True Visions, unprecedented coverage of the English Premier League warrants the 1800 baht a month payment, everything else is a bonus.

What package gives you all the EPL for 1800 baht a month? mine's more like 2300 or thereabouts, i thought you needed Platinum / Gold to get all the footie?

This one which is Gold, and last month they ran a promotion where by you could add the HD channels for 150 baht if my memory serves me well.

Unlike the OP I've learnt not to trust the TrueLies magazine guide but what really gets me is when the onscreeen guide (the 'Guide' button on the remote) displays the name of the programme I want to watch while a completely different programme is actually being shown angry.png

You're right. This week they should show the Sang Som snooker tournament on Truesport5. So I stocked up with beer and stuff for the event (2 or 3 days). There was nothing to watch, but it was displayed on the onscreen guide that it should be on. bah.gif

All this talk of "download" this and that is all well and good if you have a decent connection speed. Seems the various companies are latching onto this and for those of us out in the sticks that cant get a "landline" they have now introduced paying per gb of download, so whereas before you could use as much as you want now its 4GB per MONTH ! and after that the already slow connection is CUT to just 380kb so there is no way you can download anything now even if you had a reasonable speed. Guess those of us outside the cities are stuffed !

True Visions has always been bad but the last month or more its been bloody awful, comic cartoons on the movie channels ?? <deleted> ! repeat after repeat, old films shown time and again. It really is a piss take for the money they charge, but some of us have two choices, that or nothing. I have started to buy more DVD's as an option.

I agree as I'm not a computer buff.

Whilst I used to download 'stuff' on the computer (set up by someone else biggrin.png ), my computer is some way from my TV so I was told that the 'connection' to the TV would not be v good and I don't want to sit at the computer to watch films - its just not as comfortable as lying on the sofa and my computer screen is far smaller than my TV.

Additionally, the downloads took a long time as my internet connection is slow and, breaks down a lot anyway...

The TrueVision's service is extremely annoying in some ways, mainly :- it stops whenever there is heavy rain and there are too many repeats of programmes/films - except those I actually want to see! I used to enjoy True Blood, but somehow managed to miss the previous series entirely blink.png! I'm not sure whether True Visions didn't show the last series or whether they just didn't show/repeat the episodes at a time when I would be watching the TV. Edit - Episodes from the latest series are not repeated as far as I've noticed.

Same thing with Boardwalk Empire, which like the OP, I used to enjoy.

Can't be easy living with those limitations, CharlieH but I don't think it'll be long before they implement fair usage policies for us city dwellers either. Even now, True shapes my bandwidth so that even with a 50Mb DOCSIS connection, downloading torrents sees me capped at mivkey mouse speeds of 60kb/sec during the day.

I circumvent this by going through a VPN that restores speeds to the 5.5MB/sec I expect. How long I'll be able to get away with it is anyone's guess but for now, shows like Boardwalk Empire screen in HD at the HardenedSoul residence mere hours after they air in the States.

Frankly, I would bin Truevisions today if I didn't have 3 months to run on the contract, Pure crap, B-movies and endless repeats. Even the Thais think it's shit.

My son you are a prime candidate for a seedbox. A decent seed box and a swift connection cost mee less than than truee platinum used to, and i still had to pay for the connection on top of that. My interweb/seedbox costs are sub 2500 per month.

Seedboxxes also allow you to easily keep up a ratio (currently im at 10:1) on fast well seeded private trackers where normal mortals suffer to maintain 1:1

I can download a legal (720p DTS 5.1) 4-5 gb file to seed box,(abt 3 mins) then, ftp to local machine and be watching it in about 40-50 mins total.

something legal and 1gb i am watching in about 20 mins. Using CUTE FTP or FDM to open multiple connection downloads allows me to get a steady 20-33 Mb download on my 30 mb docsis 3,0 connection with true depending on congestion.

this is also why rar files are used by so many uploaders, they allow for multiple concurrent streams i generally use 30-60 streams depending on how badly true is limiting individual threads.
