Taxis/transportation From Airport To Hotel

Featured Replies

Hi!

I'm going to Chiang Mai in november for the first time and would like to know little bit about taxis/transportations.

Are there meter taxis on the airport which I can take to go my hotel or what would be the best/easiest and cheapest way?

And for going around in town best to take a tuk tuk or...?

Or most of the taxis in Chiang Mai not using meters at all?

I'm staying at Thapae Gate Lodge or Imm Hotel, not sure yet.

Thnks a lot

They have a fixed price from the airport to the city. I think it's 150 Baht to Thapae Gate.

While you are waiting for your bag to appear on the belt, go over to the taxi desk and pay. Get a receipt then on exit ( #2 I think) give the receipt to the person in charge and they will allocate a driver for you. All very well organised.

No metered taxis in Chiang Mai. Its a flat fee of 120B to anywhere in the city.

Tuk tuk's will get you around town. The cheaper option is Songhtell's.. From where you are staying there will be a lot in walking distance.

Prices can vary depending on where you want to go. 20 baht for the red trucks and if you are going some where that they figure they will not be able to pick up another fare they will ask for more. Tuk Tuk's are a different animal. 40 baht is the cheapest I have ever got and it was just a short distance I would have walked if I hadn't been late. any where in the old city is 50 baht I am told. Never use them there as it is a small area and I can walk to where I want to go.

Be prepared to negotiate if you think the price is to high.

Enjoy the city.

The airport has Taxi service. At this time they are having a special of 120 baht to any hotel in the old city (your hotel) or down town area. Not sure if will remain durring hign season. This really is a good deal. The driver who meets me charges 150 Bt but his English is wonderful and is very helpful. Where around town the songthel (not sure of the spelling, red trucks) if your on their routes will charge 20 baht but often tell me more thinking I don't know better. I don't like riding in the back of a pick up smelling diesel fumes in 32 degree weather. Ditto for Tuk tuks So I use a car and drive who from your location charges 150 for each point to point location. If I am doing many errands I hire for a half day at 500 Bt or full day at 1000 Bt.

Something about a new car and A/C is worth a little more.

PM me if you need contact information and I will be happy to pass it on

The Chiang Mai taxis at the airport are actually a nice change from other Thai cities, they are set and reasonably priced.

If new perhaps better to avoid Songtels as can be confusing if the first time, different colours to where etc. Come on Dolly if you live here then you can find the other options, but for visitors 50+ baht surely is affordable and simple, and compared to taxis in the west it is a steal.
