October 21, 201213 yr Hello all I'm planning on staying here for a long time. I now have an apartment that I live in with my son and my girlfriend. I'm tired of doing border runs every month. What are my visa options? Is there anyway to get some sort of a 1 year visa? I heard also that you can get a 6 month multi entry visa from Malaysia. Is that true?
October 21, 201213 yr A multi entry means that you have to go outside of Thailand every so many days. Is the child Thai? You could apply for a Non Immigrant O for visiting your child at a consulate outside of Thailand. If you are registered as the legal father by the courts and not the Birth certificate as this is not evidence enough, then you could also apply for an extension of the visa you get at a consulate, by going to the local immigration office with proof of funds and a few other documents.
October 21, 201213 yr If the Son is Thai and you are the legal Father: 2.18 In the case of a family member of a Thai(applicable only to parents, spouse, child, adopted child or child of his/her spouse): Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 1 year at a time. (5) In the case of a parent, one of parents must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit of not less than 400,000 baht for expenses within a year.
October 21, 201213 yr just curious father mentioned on a birth certificate "not evidence enough" ????? for Thai immigration ? since a legalized birth certificate can provide nationality of 1 or both of the parents this 'no evidence enough' sounds a bit unrealistic dont you think? Where exactly is that pinned down in the Thai Law on Nationality or immigration or where? Thanks a million hgma A multi entry means that you have to go outside of Thailand every so many days. October 21, 201213 yr You can name anybody on the birth certificate. It is just a claim the person registering the birth makes without any proof. Note that immigration in Thailand normally insist on going for legitimization by way of the court. They do not seem to accept a legitimization at the amphur.
October 22, 201213 yr A birth certificate is only valid for determining the country of birth, not who the parents are. This is the case in any country, not just Thailand.

The parents names are also used for determining nationality as well a parentage. Have a look at a few embassy websites to see what proof is needed to obtain citizenship. Thai immigration is the only entity that does not recognize the name on the birth certificate as significant proof of parentage that I am aware of.
