Latest Date To Apply For Extension To Stay

Featured Replies

I have a 90 day non immigrant O visa which is due to expire on 29th December 2012.

What is the latest date I can apply for an extension based on retirement? This would be my first application for an extension.

I am over 50, have a Thai bank account in my name only and have sufficient funds to cover the 800,000 baht but I cannot get it into my Thai bank account until this Thursday 25th as there has been a holdup in the release of funds from the UK.

This is a bit tight to cover the 2 months requirement for it to be in my account but would I be ok?

Thanks in anticipation.

You could apply on Dec. 29th but it would be best to do it a few days early. After the 29th you would be on overstay.

The 60 day count would begin on the date of deposit so that makes it as being somewhere around the 23rd of Dec. which is a Sunday so it would be the 24th for the application which would give you plenty of time.

Just be sure you get a letter from the bank on the 24th.

The 29th Decemebr would be the latest you can apply.

If you have an income from abroad, you can have your embassy certify the income. if it isn't 65,000 baht you could still apply based on a combination of yealry income and money in the bank in Thailand. In th e case of a combination there is no need to season the money

Thanks Ubonjoe and Mario2008, I didn't realise that, if using the combination method, you needn't season the money in the account.

I can easily drop in sufficient funds to my Thai bank which, together with my pension income will be enough to satisfy the requirements.

If I use the combination method how early can I apply for my British Embassy income letter? Does it have to be near the time of application or can I do it now?

As I'm in Nakhon Phanom, I wouldn't want to travel to Bangkok to get it, but use the postal service - just don't like sending original documents through the post though.

Again thanks

I would contact the immigration office that you have to use and ask them. The one that I use requires that it be issued within 30 days of the application (I did my extension this morning and asked), but other reports indicate that other offices will accept letters dated earlier.

The embassy letter can be a couple of weeks old, but the bank letter is best the same day or the day before.

Thanks everyone.

Thaivisa comes up trumps again.
