PM to travel south to discuss safety measures after attacks on teachers.

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinnawat prepares to travel to the Deep south after the cabinet meeting, while more than 15,000 people in Yala issued a joint declaration condemning instigators of violence.

More than 15,000 students, merchants, and the general public, gathered at Pipitpakdi (พิพิธภักดี) road in the Yala Municipality to show their opposition to terrorism in the region. Yala provincial governor Boonyasit Suwannarat (บุณยสิทธิ์ สุวรรณรัตน์) presided over the event and issued a declaration on behalf of the “Yala people Love Yala group”, condemning the attackers who have hurt and killed innocent people for over two years. The declaration also called for the people to oppose the terrorist group to stop them from causing more troubles in the region.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinnawat commented on the closure of 130 schools in Yala due to fears of attacks following an ambush on four teachers that he has discussed the issue with Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Chidchai Wannasatit (ชิดชัย วรรณสถิตย์), adding that Mr. Chidchai will travel to the southern region first, adding that he will travel down to the south after a cabinet meeting today.

PM is preparing to travel down to the Deep South tomorrow

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is preparing to travel to the Deep South tomorrow after a series of unrest situations have taken place in this region continuously.

The premier is scheduled to visit the restive south tomorrow to encourage the local people and the officers who are working there. He will also discuss the violence situation with concerned units in the area.

Previously, Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister CHITCHAI WANNASATHIT (ชิดชัย วรรณสถิตย์), Defence Minister THAMMARAK ISARANGURA NA AYUTTHAYA (ธรรมรักษ์ อิศรางกูร ณ อยุธยา), and Education Minister CHATURON CHAISANG (จาตุรนต์ ฉายแสง) have already arrived at the southern provinces, following the reports that insurgents are aiming to harm the local teachers. Thus, a number of schools in the South have to close down temporarily.

PM Thaksin is scheduled to visit the Deep South during 10th-11th of February

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will be on a two-day visit to the three southern border provinces tomorrow.

Upon his arrival, he will attempt to enliven the local residents and the officials who are working in the restive areas.

The premier is also planning to spend a night in one of the three southernmost provinces. However, no details have been revealed on the destination he would be residing.

ACM Kongsak believes that PM's visit to deep south will put more confidence in residents

Interior Minister Air Chief Marshal Kongsak Wantana (คงศักดิ์ วันทนา) expressed his confidence that Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’ s visit to the Deep South will place more confidence amongst teachers and officials living in the three southermost provinces. ACM Kongsak also added that the premier's visit is not aimed at interfering anti-government demonstration leader Sondhi Limthongkul (สนธิ ลิ้มทองกุล).

He referred to the purpose of the PM's trip as a casual visit to check on the performances of government officials and teachers' well-being.

He said that schools in the Deep South will resume next Tuesday. He also denied reports that he organized groups to show support to the premier. ACM Kongsak also believes that the rally on February 11th will not be violent.
