Planetside 2

Anyone successfully playing Planetside 2 in Thailand? I'd like to test it before buying, and would like to know if it's easy to get onto a server in the region that has acceptable ping times etc. I'm too late to get a beta key, so appreciate comments from other players.

Been playing it for about a month and love it. Servers are currently on and off as this is still beta but the game play and visuals are stunning. This Friday servers go live 24/7 and the game opens to the public i believe on the 21st. Eyefinity on this game is awesome even with average gpu's.

I have an extra beta key if you would like it.

Can anyone give a rundown on the game and opinions? Getting tired of GRecon and Dayz.

Space age shooter. Three factions try to take over planets. Currently 3 planets. You have infantry units, tank units, and space ships. Great graphics but the updates are currently going through some issues as does during betas. I personally like the hover craft tank and the scythe flying ship.

Alright I've been tinkering with it a bit, although I'm still finding my way around.

I think I can safely say that in terms of scale and scope this is the most ambitious game ever written, there is simply nothing remotely in the same class. I quite enjoy 64 player games on Battlefield 3, and I've slugged it out in castle wars with maybe 150 players in Lineage 2. But an intense battle in Planetside 2 is insane. Hundreds of players assaulting a base from land and air is quite a sight to behold, and for that alone any serious gamer should give it a shot. It's like the more manic bits of Return of the Jedi. The light assault class comes with jump jets which are just awesome and add a new dimension to installation brawls. Integrated voice communication is just brilliant. It's a real buzz to jump in an aircraft and have the pilot start talking to you. Unfortunately few players seem to be using it (and the squads that do really clean up).

There's a bit of downside though: My main gripe is that there are no Asian servers at this time. Coming from Battlefield 3 I really notice the lag and jerking, combat doesn't have the same fluidity (at least, not when trying to play on a distant server). You'll need a pretty good graphics card to play (I get about 34 FPS average with a HD 6950 on an overclocked 4.4 GHz quad core with 8 gigs of RAM and and OCZ Vertex 3 SSD). During intense battles FPS drops like hell, enough to make me think about upgrading to a new card.

A couple of other things I miss - there is a lack of cover for infantry and not being able to lie down to hide or aim really frustrates me, since this adds a lot of depth to an FPS. Not a lot of places to hide, especially when you're being pounded from the air.

Nearly forgot to mention, its free to play.

Sounds like I would need to upgrade my 4 year old rig. With the newer games coming out like Hitman, AC3 and this one, my duo core is crap.

Playing Dayz and watching other videos of their dayz, mine sucks big time. I can only imagine my fps with Planetside.

FYI Planetside 2 is optimized for crossfire and sli so adding a gpu instead of a whole rig may be a consideration. Just a thought.thumbsup.gif
