Thai Scammers !

Featured Replies

So i think its fair to say we are all on here to help and advice each other.. most of us are forigners here so why not !

I made friends with a Thai couple called <REMOVED>and a <REMOVED> who claimed to both be pro golfers and often played at Star Dome which i witnessed. (Pro doesnt mean famous)

They approached me for money which they were going to bet on the football with and pay me a monthly profit as <REMOVED> had done this before with her contacts in Bangkok using the Asian Handicap Betting system and done very well... she added she studied in the UK Geometry and even tho she lost some she won more, claiming to have had won 1.5M baht last season, not bad i thought. (They also claimed to have their own money to bet with) I never directly gambled as thats illegal !

So without going into detail i lent these people some money to "play" with.. and dont start by saying "saw that coming" as im writting this to warn others of these two, prevent this from happening to others and to see if anyone has come accross these two people here in Chiang Mai ?

Its never nice losing money but you must learn from your own mistakes and if possible from others.

Thank you.

Names removed - we don't name and shame on Thaivisa.

Given the slander/libel/defamation laws in Thailand perhaps it was not prudent to post this.

Likewise if you want a possible resolution (ie. money back) why not contact the BIB and make a formal complaint?

Then if they get a result I am sure it will be factually reported as news somewhere.

Do not think it`s right to publicly name and shame people on an open forum.

We only have your account as to the alleged scam. You could be someone who simply has a grudge against the couple for whatever reasons, plus Thailand has strict defamation and libel laws and if I were you, I would tread carefully.

BIB ?

BIB ?

Police

And you should edit the names out so you don't get sued for calling them scammers.

Sorry... BIB = Boys in Blue/Police.....or see a lawyer. I would also strongly suggest you contact mods to have this post removed pronto.

claiming to have had won 1.5M baht last season, not bad i thought.

Did it not cross your mind as to why they needed money from you ?

You got involved in gambling and you lost, get over it.

Names have been removed from the OP's post. As has been said the defamation laws in Thailand are rather onerous.

Its a forum... i would appreciate a heads up also ?!? Not exactly making this up ! MODS ? Well their names have been removed but my point has been made. Police report has been made, just wanted to warn others.

Moderators = Mods.

Again ...suggest you edit out names or remove post through mods.

So i think its fair to say we are all on here to help and advice each other

Correct. Here's a good advice, don't lend money to Thai people (or Farangs for that matter) ever.

Thanks for the warning, Brendon. So now you can' t contact your alleged scammers, am i right?

I agree with advice given. It would be polite to alter the OP or removing the thread entirely. You mentioned not only names but more details as well(I can only guess why you did this). The names were removed but you mentioned what happened in some detail which means they can possibly identify you from this forum. Do i need to go on?

Good luck

The forum rules don't allow discussion of illegal activity, such as gambling.

"16) Not to post about gambling, betting, pornography, illegal drugs, fake goods/clothing etc and other activities that are officially illegal in Thailand."

Closed, and thanks for your understanding.
