Abstinence! :o:D

Poor Khall :o

The pill, am allergic to anything spermicidal, have been married for 16 years to a partner I trust so don't need the barrier method anyway and I have relatively few side effects from the pill. Altho, I am turning 40 this May (GULP!) so am thinking about having my tubes tied. Anyone gone that route? Know how much it might run here in LOS?

I was on the BCP but for some reason I wasn't getting my period suppose it was b/c the dose is to high. So even though condoms can be a bit of a downer and there is more risk of breaking etc. we switched to just condoms which is sort of ironic seeing as we were both tested for everything before we switched to stricly condoms, usually that gives you your freedom from condoms! Once I get home I may try and change the kind of BCP. But I am weary of the risks with breast cancer etc when taking the pill. ALso you totally didn't ask my opinion but just cause I used to work at a WOmen's Heath clinic, just really keeep an eye on your IUD. Take notice of any changes in your body and if your concerned contact a doctor. I am no saying IUDs are bad because women are all different and need all different kinds of BC. Just when you put something foreign into your body, IUD, BCP etc its just really important you take notice of the changes in your body. Ok off my soap box now

Excuse me ladies but a discussion last night prompted some research questions from me , my wife Thai having had 2 kids and is presently on a low dose pill with no real immediate side effects worries a little about the long term possible effects and has started to ask about an implant with a slow release drug that is effective for 5 years , The cost not important was about 5000 baht .

Does any one have a perspective ,or experience of this and I am ashamed I know little about the implant . She wants to discuss it with me but I have to do my home work

Do you mean implant some drug under skin?

Ladies, a much simpler method of birth control is

available; the Aspirin.

Rather than taking it the traditional way though,

i.e. orally with a glass of water,

it should be retained firmly between your knees during

times of arousal. :o

Absolutely.

A method that developed in the far reaches of Cornwall, South West England.

Even up until fairly recently, being relatively cut off from the rest of England, the country girls there took it upon themselves to search for an alternative to the pill and even condoms that weren't always readily available.

Esther Stockwell, a farmer's daughter almost at the end of her tether after giving birth to seven children whilst still in her early twenties came up with the solution after a brainstorming session with a group of Cornish womenfolk in the local inn.

Still a relatively unknown method of contraception outside Southern England, doctors and pharmacists are usually unwilling to prescribe the aspirin method between the knees as it is not 100% reliable, particularly if the woman using it has sweaty knees.

YES

the Discussions with the hospital seemed to indicate it went in the arm and must therefore be a slow release hormone ,further discussions today yielded the cost is 6000 baht ,and it is effective for 3 years .The bit I do not understand is any hormonal drug would normally stop the periods for the total time taken ( does not sound good ) others thicken the mucus and cause sperm travel to be affected but are classed as only about 75% to 90% effective . The hospital claimed 95% 99% effective . ?????

The first question I would ask is if you are concerned about the long term affects of the pill: what about the long term affects of this implant? The main advise I would give someone when thinking about getting a BC injection (this is the only one I know of that lasts 3 months. It is an injection ino your upper arm) is that condoms, BCP, diaphrams, IUDs etc. can all be stopped if the need arises. Where as an injection can not, it is in your system for that period of time. Now I am not familiar with this implant that you speak of, so perhaps it can be taken out as well. THe most important thing to do is gather all informaiton you can about it and go from there. Have you googled it? Don't be ashamed of knowing little about this, the fact that you are taking an interest and the intiative to know more about BC is admirable.

I am doing the research to discover the benefits /long term effects .. and yes I have googled it and it told nothing I did not know ..and no mention of the 3 year implant .

At lunch time I discussed it with several of my team over lunch I have over 2000 female staff and very few males working for me . . The 6 girls over lunch all knew of it , all had friends with it but no body knew the name , % effective , etc but will ask tonight ..

What did suprise /horrify me was my small sample of normal people all used what they called the natural method ... ( married and single girls ) .. I thought that was ovulation timing and safe time method ...but no it was withdrawl method you know ..."" kick the box away when his eyes glaze over"" , ""get off the train to Chang Mai at Lopburi "" How do they concentrate on that ,their love lives must be pretty tame if they can or want to think about that ..they are not transported to greater hieghts ..

As a side line when councelling a 16 year old in the UK who was reporting her pregnancy to me at work , she was not the brightest star in the sky .. I asked her " What precautions did you take to be carefull, did you take any ? "

She replied Yeh ..I waited till me mam and dad went out to the club .

The ones who need to know are rarely reached !!

BC issues always suprise me in the UK I campaigned to get condom machines put in the toilets at work 1979 ...I was allowed but only in the male toilets , I actually wanted to put most of them in the female toilets but was shot down as stupid .. the machines were very little used and after 6 months I moved them with out the bosses or any ones permission to mostly female toilets the sales went up tremendously . This was the begining of my long term quest to put some sanity into the subject of BC / protection .

My greatest sucesses wère in Bangladesh but that is another story .

Wasn`t it Esther Stockwell who it is said to have inspired the local midwife( who was also the towns baker )to design the new shape and finish on a Cornish pasty crust just after the birth of Esther `s seventh child ?

[ Altho, I am turning 40 this May (GULP!) so am thinking about having my tubes tied. Anyone gone that route? Know how much it might run here in LOS?

I am turning 40 this year too, in April! Not something I am looking forward to. I had my tubes tied almost 7 years ago after the birth of my twins (children 3 and 4!) and it is great. My periods did change somewhat and I am very aware of when I am ovulating, but it is nice not to have to worry at all about birth control. The sad thing is that although you have had a surgical procedure to stop you from getting pregnant, you still ovulate and have your period. What a bummer.

Can't advise on the cost in Thailand as I had it done in Malaysia immediately after a cesaerean birth. If you are absolutely sure that you don't want any, or any more children it is the best option, in my opinion.

make that 3 of us who are abstaining. :o (though i take the pill too just in case i ever get sex again in my life)
