Could anybody give us an up to date list of required documents please. We are a foreign couple, retired, above 60, would like to use the money in the bank version. We use Pattaya Immigration Office to apply. Thank you all. PF.

What type of visas do you and your wife have now?

If you are on non-immigrant O visas, then you would be applicant, your wife would be classed as a dependent, and one bank account with 800,000+ THB would suffice.

If you are on a tourist visa, then you both have to apply for a 90 day extension and conversion to an O visa, and at the same time, apply for the one year extension of the new O visas. Since in this scenario your spouse would not have had an O visa prior to this, you would each have to meet the 800,000+ THB bank deposit requirement individually.

My wife (Australian) and I (American) went through this process earlier this year, and it worked fine.

Once I hear the type of current visa, then I can advise as to the necessary documentation.

My bank makes a copy of the passbook as part of the letter-writing process, and stamps it to confirm authenticity. I'm not sure whether other banks do the same thing but when I did my extension the immigration official definitely wanted a copy of the passbook, so it was convenient to have the one provided by my bank. The passbook was for a time deposit with no movement, but he didnt ask for a passbook showing movement which some people have been asked for. (I took a second such passbook just in case, but he didnt want to see it.)

He also wanted to keep a copy of my proof of address (electricity bill) which I had brought with me anyway.

Of course on another day the same official may not have wanted the copies at all.

We both are on a non-immigrant O which will expire Dec. 15th. Thank you again to all posters.

In addition to the documents references above, bring a copy of your marriage certificate to prove the relationship so that they can issue your wife's visa as a dependent, and thus require only 800,000 THB for both of you rather than individually.

I would also make copies of the 90 day report receipts from each of your passports - they are stapled inside the back cover.

If you miss something, there is a copy shop right outside the door.

Thanks Mario

I have 1.6 Mio and the book is in my name (husband only!) Now my bank tells me it needs to be in both our names? Would anybody know the facts? What if we switch the funds now into a new book with both names, will it be enought to show the old book to proof the 2 month seasoning period.

And next question: Do we really need a marriage certificate? We don't have 1 with us.

Thank you all. PF

I am guessing that the question of the needing the marriage certificate might well come down to which immigration officer handles your paperwork. We had a copy of ours with us, and they asked for it, but that may have something to do with the fact that my wife kept her maiden name after we were married, so the passports, etc., show different family names. (Incidentally, I keep scans of all of these documents in an encrypted folder on my pen drive so that they are available when the need arises.)

As for the amount on deposit, here is our experience. I have sufficient pension income to meet the threshold, so that was fine. Since we were coming from tourist visas, my wife had to apply on her own rather than as my dependent. She was short on the pension income, and had to rely on bank deposit to meet the shortfall. Since the account was in both of our names, they would only count half of the deposit as qualifying for her. Fortunately, there were sufficient funds on deposit so that half was sufficient for her to meet the threshold 800,000 THB.

How can you prove you are married without a marriage certificate?

You will need to get it certified by the Thai authorities, and also registered at an amphur.

Good morning administrators:

Can you please close that thread/post, as we posted a new one with more specific inquiries, with good answers already. Thank you very much and thanks for all the good info. PF.wai2.gif
