Xray Specialist In Chiang Mai

I have a very sore hip and went to the hospital across from the Holiday Inn and talked to the doctor on staff,

He had a x ray taken it was just one X Ray of me laying on my back,

Is it not the usual procedure to take several from different positions.

The Chiropractor there helped it a lot but he said there was no more he could do for me. Other than periodic adjustments I have been doing for years on my back. Physio basically said put heat on it.

Any body know if just the one X ray is all that is needed?

The x-ray of the hip will show up any arthritis in the hip, also it shows the gap between the leg and the hip which is actually cartilage, so the smaller the gap the less cartilage. If there isn't much cartilage or there is considerable arthritic degeneration left then it will tend to inflame easily and be painfull. The doctors there really hould have gone over all this with you.

Usually a standing x ray is better but if the chiropractor says not much can do then maybe they saw a fair bit of degeneration and that one x ray was enough. There are natural anti inflamatory pills like glucosamine that help plus plenty of other things you can google, pharmaceuticals best avoided as you will probably be taking them for a long time and don't won't the side effects. If rheumatoid arthritis diet can sort out but osteoarthritis the damage is done. Stretching and massage can also alleviate, need to test and see what works for you. If you are grossly overweight then losing weight will take pressure off the hip, simple physics.

Hi I'm just curious why you don't trust the examining doc's judgement. And interested to see how many posters know the correct answer.

I think the OP needs more than an x-ray.

Because it was over a month and a half ago and he said the hip was all right. Normal condition for a man my age.

For the last three weeks I have been taking two celebrex a day. He never said any thing about arthritis. The worst pain is not walking it is when I have been sitting a while and I stand up Some times it is OK no pain other times it is very painful. The pain starts after I am about three quarters of the way up to be standing straight up after sitting down. Makes no difference if I sit for a few minutes or an hour.

Also I had my other hip X rayed last Feb. And they took X rays from at least 2 different positions.

I was wondering if perhaps the one X ray was not enough or is that all they ever do.

The answer is however many it takes, if any, to make a diagnosis, and only after getting the history and doing an exam. And no more, because X rays are something to stay out of the way of as much as possible. Hope your hip gets better soon. You got some good advice from Rancid IMO; but Dolly - hello, for all you know we could both be 19 year olds posting from a project in Chicago. If in doubt get another opinion somewhere besides a forum like this - just sayin...

Sounds like Thai Visa is to blame then............my advice give TV a rest for a month and see how things improve.

Good advice.

Well I am 70 years old living in Chiang Mai. But I completely agree with you about another opinion. I was hoping some one local would know some thing.

Yes I got some thing from Rancid and your self Was hoping for another opinion of what could be wrong. It never would have occurred to me to get a standing X ray.But down deep I knew you were rite about a second opinion and the Doctor knowing the whole story. I told him all that could affect it that I knew about. As for the chiropractor he made an adjustment to my tail bone which took away a lot of the pain. He said that was all he could do with this problem.

As for stay away from TV Then I would miss the helpful suggestions like google it or not have my spelling corrected. Also at my age and retired I have the time. Also enjoy some of the nonsense some of the posters put up.

In all fairness to the doctor he did mention the possibility of an MRI as that would show the muscle and tendons.

Before you had chiropractic treatment, were x-rays of the hip taken and a diagnosis made?

If it's degeneration of the hip, I don't see how 'adjustments' will help, it might make it worse.

It sounds as if you don't have confidence with the Rajivej orthopaedic doctor. If it's the one I'm thinking of, I too would have little confidence, having had something completely misdiagnosed.

Why don't you make an appointment to see Dr. Chanakarn (on pinned list) at his clinic, which isn't far from Rajivej. He has a good reputation and I know two people who have had hip replacements (successful) done by him. I'm not saying that's what you need, but it does sound like you might benefit from a second opinion.

Important information about Celebrex

Celebrex may cause life-threatening heart or circulation problems such as heart attack or stroke, especially if you use it long term. Do not use Celebrex just before or after heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG).

Get emergency medical help if you have chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, or problems with vision or balance.

Celebrex may also cause serious effects on the stomach or intestines, including bleeding or perforation (forming of a hole). These conditions can be fatal and can occur without warning while you are taking Celebrex, especially in older adults.

Call your doctor at once if you have symptoms of stomach bleeding such as black, bloody, or tarry stools, or coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds.

I used to get a bit annoyed why older people complaining about this and that. I couldn't understand how simple stuffs, to us, bothered them. After I saw and took care of my in-laws, in their 80's, I have gained much understanding of older people. In fact, I, myself, am feeling the old age factors are slowly sipping in this year. Could it be the CM factors?

Thanks for the conformation of my suspicions. The Chiropractor came after and made it better. He is in my opinion a good one. He is at Rajivejas you guessed and I believe the one you are talking about is there Friday nights. Looks like I will have to call his clinic and hope for the beast. I know where it is but I have heard he travels a lot. Seems like every body I have heard talk about him is very positive about him. As well as a bone Doctor I have heard he works with Athletes who have had other problems as a result of there sport.

Yes Celebrex can be harmful but not as much as the Viox I was on for 5 years.

First you may need a good anti inflammatory medication.

Keep the weight of your feet as much as possible.

Do as little walking as possible.

Find a back rest as when you sit you put pressure on your lower back, which in turns put pressure on your hip.

Also get up regularly to keep joins moving for a short time when sitting for long periods.

All this will help but not fix the problem.

What a relief for my mind. I used to worry about hospital and doctor costs as I get older. But it seems I just have to log in here, recount my malady, and presto, the advice comes for free right on tv.

And note that the free advice is not limited to just physical ailments. TV members are adept at diagnosing mental illnesses as well!

Well we do like to talk but if you had read my original post you would notice it was a question with a yes or no answer.

But I did get a lot of good advice. Now I may not be a rocket scientist but I do know enough to see a doctor and tell her what I am doing. She can sort it out for me if it sounds dubious.

Would strongly suggest you get a doctor who knows all about you and keep them informed of all that happens to you. If you are like me you might decide to try this or that supplement.

Uptheos

Celebrex is not as harmful on the stomach as Ibuprofen that is a definite no no with Warfarin. Even with a proven 70 year old iron stomach I won't take it unless I am desperate and I have eaten.

The down part is I can get both for free for the rest of my life. bummersad.png

The up side is I made an appointment with the Doctor you recommended.

If mesquite cares to come along he can get information for free from a doctor.wai2.gif

I just had a hip replacement done by Dr. Choksupan at Rajavej, and have nothing but highest recommendations for the entire operation. X-rays were far more informative than any I've gotten before, because the techs know their business, and get excellent exposures. Even I could "read" them. Although my situation was quite complex, and actually required life-size imaging for parts acquisition, they never took more than two views. I think most preliminary screening could be handled with one view.

If you have pain and no one can see anything unusual in the X-rays, the next step wouldn't be more X-rays: you would step up to an MRI.

I'm pleased you had success with Dr. Choksupan. smile.png I had the complete opposite experience (see 11).sad.png

While acupuncture has a good reputation it is not for every one, I have tried it at home once I bought a series of 10 appointments, No help,

The one you recommended I have seen for other things and never received help. I however do plan on trying again this time just for my feet. I have diabetes and it can effect the feeling in the feet. My doctor chuckled and said it could not hurt and might help.So far she gives me a vitamin v shot that has helped immensely. There is another practitioner at the Chines herb shop in the Wararot Market area who I have tried to no avail.

Sorry to hear that.

What you say can be true both ways too as I did not get much relief in the US for

my sciatic with acupuncture.

But here just the opposite. After each session better & better till at session 7 all pain was gone

& mobility returned.

Hope you find some relief. Living with pain is rough & I know disheartening as at times you

wonder if you will ever be "normal" again.

Good luck!

As others have said, a single Xray is enough if it shows a clear cause for the pain but it sounds like this was not the case with you. And also that the pain has persisted over time. SO, further evaluatiuon by an orthopedic specialist is in order.

Actually I saw another specialist today and he told me two X rays is the common way from two different views.

Wish this was still in the Chiang Mai Forum as that is the area I live in. The specialist says I have arthritis.

I was surprised at how quick it could come on and how on a pain scale of 1 to 10 it can be 2 one time I do some thing and 10 the next time I do the same thing. As I had said the pain was in the rising from a sitting position to a erect up and down position. I am not saying I am unaware of it when walking or laying down but those are not painful experience.

The Doctor said take an anti inflammatory.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Now to find a herbal one.
