Pattaya - Swiss Couple Retirement Ext. Problems

Featured Replies

Here the facts:

- Swiss Couple over 60, same family name in passports

- 1.65 Mio seasoned 6 months in husband's name bankbook

- 50'000 in separate bankbook in wife's name

- Non Imm. O expires Dec. 10.

- They don't have marriage certificate with them and can't get it in time, neither can they get pension

confirmation for wife in time as the embassy takes several weeks. .And the marriage certificate would be

in German.

Any way out of this dilemma? Would they accept a transfer of 800K to HER book?

Any way to pass without the marriage certificate?

Any of the local offices could help without charging an outrageous amount?

Thank you very much. PF.

Without a translated and verified Marriage certificate the Wife would not be able to apply as his dependant.

She would have to get the extension in her own right.

Yes the 800,000 Baht can be transferred to her Thai bank but it has to be there for 2 months.

So she would have to buy a bit of time by exiting the Country and get another Visa.

After 2 months she can then apply for the extension. either on her own or as her husbands dependant with the correct documents.

So basically she has to buy a bit of time whatever method she uses.

That is my take on it anyway.

If she uses the retirement option (which is best if money is not an issue) just make the transfer into her account. She can then exit to a Consulate to obtain a new non immigrant O visa and make retirement extension 60 days later or even cross border/return on 15/30 day visa exempt entry and obtain the 90 day entry from Immigration for 2,000 baht fee and extend 60 days later. To make this conversion at immigration only money in bank required but has to be from a visa exempt/tourist visa type entry AFAIK so would require an exit/return.

This story is a good example of people not understanding what the rules are and what will be required. Maybe given misleading info along the way as well. Please do your research before the deadline arrives and have all you ducks in a row, good luck to them but not an unsolvable problem

Yes, you are right. Nobody ever mentioned the marriage certificate when we inquired last season. And the funds have been here all along for both, but in 1 account. There is a lot of talk, about visa offices being able to "fix" such a problem. Anybody with a phone number/name?

The next option would be getting another visa abroad. Non-Imm O. Where? Thank you for everybody's help. PF.

First option I would try is talk directly to immigration and see if they can allow 800k split into two accounts to be used immediate (as the total has met the 2 month rule). They might allow it. I would not use any 'fixer' and such use could come back to bite at a later time (it is you who will be responsible of any false information/documents presented under your name).

Thank you Lopburi. As usual good advise from you. PFwai2.gif

My question is why can the not get the marriage certificate here in time. Surely they have copy at home that somebody could send by courier or international EMS which would only take at the most 3 days. It should not take more than a few hours to have a translation done in Pattaya.
