Greetings Guys,

My Thai wife is living with me in Australia on a Spouse 309 visa , and we have made an application for her 15 year old son to come and live with us .

The application is a Subclass 445 visa, lodged in Bangkok on June 6 , 2012.

The embassy have advised us in October that all documentation required is complete, and that his application is now with the "Delegate Decision Maker " waiting for decision.

They can give us no information on how much longer it will take.

We are now at the 6 month mark , and getting restless ( to say the least)

Has anyone on the forum recently applied for this visa subclass , particularly at the Australian Embassy Bangkok, who can give some idea of current processing time ????

I note that the government maximum time as stipulated by DMA is 14 months, but believe this to be the max time, not the average.

Would appreciate any info.

Not much interest in this visa category apparently !

For those that follow, my wife's son was granted his Subclass 445 Dependent child visa in late january 2013 from the Australian embassy in Bangkok.

The time taken from application to visa grant was approx 7.5 months.

He is now in Australia :-)

Mike ... thanks for coming back with an update ... clap2.gif

I can't speak on others behalf ... but I have no experience in the question that you originally asked.

But I am sure that many have learned from your experience ... so thanks for sharing.

Just to conclude with a further bit of info re the timeline.

My wife and her son were both granted their Permanent Residency Visa for Australia ( Partner (Migrant) (class BC) -Partner ( subclass 100 ) on 8th October 2013.

This is 2 years and 3 weeks after my wife's initial application for a 309 visa in Bangkok, and 9 months after the granting of her son's 445 visa.

Next stop - citizenship in 2 more years.biggrin.png

It's members like you who trail-blaze and your experiences, reported back, make it easier for us to follow and hopefully avoid some of the obstacles encountered.

AussieMike, did it cost anymore for your wifes permanent visa? Also when she gets Aussie citizenship in another 2 years does this cost anymore?

1 more question, you say it was 2 years and 3 weeks from her application for a partner visa. So this means it's not 2 years starting from the visa issue correct?

I always thought it was starting from the visa issued date.

I did not see this Topic when it was put up here,

I must say thanks AussieMike for updating with the info that you first came here on the forum looking for,

I think most would have not bothered after not getting any reply!

Thankou.

I currently am going through the same proccess with a (445) dependent child visa application which i submitted at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok at the begining of last month.

My partner's permanent residence is due in june

.

D.I.A,C informed me that they will process the 445 before a decision is made on my partners visa.

I always thought it was starting from the visa issued date.

It all depends on what type the visa application is, for instance if the application was for a de-facto or married visa it will start from the time the application was submitted, for a prospective marriage visa it will start when the visa is granted.

No, Kris, I did not have to pay any further fee for the permanent residence visa, just had to provide more information to " prove " that our relationship was current and ongoing.

There is a further fee for Australian citizenship however, looks to be $ 260 per person if they need to sit the "test" , which both my wife and son will have to do.

My understanding of the timing is the same as nightwatch, depends on married, prospective marriage, defacto etc.

I read a bit more about the citizenship requirements also, and my 2 years more comment was not quite right. They need to have their permanent residence visa , and also need to have resided in Australia for 4 years in total. Any time spent outside the country during this period ( like visiting Thailand) is not counted. There are a couple other conditions .

So my wife has been living in Australia about 18 months, and must wait another 2.5 yrs before qualifying for citizenship.

And her son , who has only been here 0.5 years, must wait another 3.5 years.

That's if I understand it correctly sad.png
