Pattaya charity swim across the bay is huge success

Rotary Club of Jomtien-Pattaya organised the 9th annual Cross bay swim this weekend, with amazing results both for the swimmers and for charities.

From a starting point at Pattaya’s Hard Rock Hotel, competitors and onlookers came together to listen to the Club president thank both Hard Rock Hotel and Pattaya City, including the Sea Rescue service, for their continuing support over the years, without their help, the swim event would not be possible. Despite recent bad weather in the area,, which is thought to have dissuaded many from the ordeal, the swim was well attended and this year, as well as medical care by the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, there was additional support from the Sawangboriboon Foundation, both on land with their ambulance on standby and with the Rescue Book adding more safety for the swimmers.

In the The 1.2Km, swimmers were guided by small boats which could offer them respite in case of exhaustion or bad weather. During the race the bay endured another of our local storms and the swimmers were offered a break, but all refused and continued to the finish. The main, 3.5 km crossing was also nearly washed out, but in the end, the sun came out and, after a late start, the race was on. ( winners listed below with details)

Once completed, the fun moved on to entertainment from the children from various homes and here was a full programme of events starting with Pattaya’s own Father Ray Foundation that had 4 impressive shows dancing and singing from Pre-school to bigger children and finally more than 20 children from the School for the Blind. The Redemptorist school for Children with Special Needs impressed with entertaining dance show.
