Hi There,

It's looking like I'll be coming out to Bangkok for at least a year in January 2013. I'm going to need to ship a load of my stuff by air freight from Uganda, where I'm living at the moment.

So I have 2 questions:

1) Can anyone recommend a door-to-door company who can pick up my gear here in Africa, and deliver it to an address in Bangkok? I've not yet found anywhere who can do this as an all-inclusive service.

2) Alternatively, it looks like I can get one company to do the air shipping, and then I'll have to find a clearing agent in Bangkok to get it through customs. Can anyone recommend a good, reliable clearing agent in Bangkok? Will I need licenses or anything like that? I've also heard horror stories about being charged $100 duty on $20 goods being sent to Thailand, so I'm worried that my stuff may attract a huge import bill. Does anyone know whether this might happen? Or is there any way this can be waived for large volumes of goods coming into the country when I initially move in. There must be a way to import all my stuff to Thailand without paying a sackful of cash in taxes. People must be doing this all the time...

FWIW, there'll be about 150kg of stuff. Not particularly valuable, but there'll be some electronics, books, clothes, linen, toiletries, etc.

Any help, pointers, or contacts will be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Chris
