I am a 46yo UK citizen, in a relationship with female Thai for 8 years and marriage registered in Thailand in 2008.After years of relying on 30 day entries due to my work and family schedule in the UK, and a couple of visits by my wife to the UK, am now staying in Thailand on a one year O visa. Some initial questions on the workings of the visa,first, is the visa validity date the last day I can stay in Thailand or is it 90 days from the last entry?second, is a 90 day entry extendable and how? My current stamp is to 1st Jan and I already have plans to leave Thailand on 2nd Jan! For 1 day should I just pay the overstay fine or should I get an extension, if available? Next question on the subject of permission to stay - I am considering staying in Thailand longer term, I have read about the 400k bank balance or 40k income requirement. Can anyone tell me what the UK embassy would need to see in order to confirm income?

The 1 year non-O visa means you have a multiple non-O.

Your visa is valid for 1 year from date issued till use before date. During that year you can travel to Thailand an unlimited times, each time you enter Thailand you cna stay for up to 90 days. If you leave and re-enter just before the visa expires, you get another 90 days. After the visa has expired, you can no longer use it to re-enter Thailand, but your permission to stay in Thailand would remain intact.

You can get an extension for 1,900 baht or simply cross the border enter and leave another country and return. But you would need to pay for the visa for that other country.

The Embassy would need to see a letter from your employer, the letter they give you costs 2340baht, you can use this to get an extension but be aware you need to show bank books.

Thank you Beano, My difficulty is that I am the sole owner director of my own UK company, showing bank accounts with sufficient transactions is not a problem but can I simply write myself a letter saying what I earn? Seems too easy...

A one day overstay is nothing, in fact you do not get charged for it at the airport.

No, it would not cause any big problems, other then a 500 baht fine and a notation in your passport about your overstay. (If leaving by air, a 1 day overstay is waived but still noted in the passport).

maybe you would then need the tax details and everything, but do not see why you cannot write a letter, but they might want more proof then.

You can do the 1 year extension during the last 30 days of any of your 90 day visa entries. But you will have a 30 day under consideration period when you apply. Meaning you would have to be here in Thailand on that to get the extension stamp. You can get a single re-entry permit that would be valid until that date.

I would think that embassy would accept some type of payment slip if letter is a problem.
