People still boozed up along Khaosarn road last night despite police request for suspension of alcohol sales

Entertainment venues along Khao San (ข้าวสาร) road were filled with people taking in booze last night despite a request from police that alcohol sales not be made on Magha Puja Day.

Khao San road was still roamed by tourists both Thai and foreign on the night of Magha Puja. Many entertainment venues and convenient stores in the area were still selling alcohol to the visitors as usual.

However some venues and small street-side beer bars did consider religious importance on the Buddhist holiday and were closed last night.

Police from Chanasongkhram (ชนะสงคราม) station had earlier handed out documents asking for entertainment venues in the area to suspend alcohol sales on the day, in order to prevent crime in the religiously significant day of Magha Puja.
