Need Serviced Apartment For Two Months

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a serviced apartment in Chiang Mai. Do you have any suggestions for ones that are within walking distance (10 mins walk) of the old city? Looking to pay 10-15k baht per month. Smith Residence sounds good, but fully booked at the moment. Will need from mid-March onwards. At the moment just looking for ideas rather than a definite place. Once I have a short-list I can contact them all nearer the time.

Don't use Smith Residence, you will be charged for every little thing and more. There was even a 20 baht per month rental fee for the bath mat. No joke. I've stayed at View Doi Mansion in Santitham and it's excellent and fair, and not too far from the old city. If that doesn't work, keep looking, but don't stay at Smith Residence (unless money or the feeling of being fleeced is not a concern.)

I'll add View Doi Mansion to my list, although I think it's a little far away for us. Ideally we want to be in the old city or a short walk from it, preferable on the river side. Most of the places we'll be hanging out will be on that side, as that's where all our favorite places are.

So how much do all the extras add to the monthly cost at Smiths Residence. I think I'd rather pay the extra and be closer to the old city. I just checked and it seems that Smith Residence is 200m away, while View Doi Mansion is 1.3km away. Plus SR is nearer the places we hang out. But VDM looks a better place (bigger, better views, etc). I think location is going to be more important for us initially. But I haven't ruled out VDM.

I've stayed there a number of times probably six months or more in total and never heard or experienced such a thing.

I just emailed them to check the prices and ask if there were any addition costs. They said the only extras were water, electricity and wifi. So it's top of my list at the moment. Would like a few more options if possible though.

What did you think of location, speed of wifi, etc? Any extra info of actually living there appreciated.

Just read some reviews on Trip Advisor. One guy said there is a 1,500 baht/month charge to use the pool and gym. That is completely ridiculous. Another guy stayed there twice and said he had a great room at the front the first time but a not so good room at the back next time. He wasn't at all happy with the customer service, When I emailed they said they couldn't guarantee which room I'd get, so this doesn't sound so good after all. So my new plan is to book somewhere for 2-3 days in advance and then go take a look around some places myself before choosing longer-term.

are you willing to settle down in a guest house instead? i guess that arent many apartments within real walking distance from the moat. smith actually arent that bad if you think about it. stayed there for a long time. wifi are typical apartment standard, 2mbps speed, but when it go does after working hours, its going to stay down till next morning.

alternatively you could check out huaykaew resident as well but i have no experience with them and there are some negative feedbacks here. its alittle far, but walkable distance from the moat

I've started to look at some smaller places in the old city, as I think that might be more suitable. If I can find a large room there, then that might be the best option. Looking for something with good wifi and lots of light. I definitely don't want to stay in a dark room. Balcony would be a bonus. Fridge is definitely needed. And table and chairs would be good to have.

I nominate The Dome residence on huay kaew road. No funny business over there as I and couple other people have had good experience. Located nearly across the street from Central kad suan kaew shopping mall.

Call them for availability. Price should range in the 7-10K range.

This should be there phone number pulled from the website +66(0)53 405 400

or google "the dome chiang mai" for the website just incase your not suppose to post it there.

Thanks for that, but it's too far away for us. It would mean a 2km walk either way twice every day. I think I really need something in the old city, on river side, or just outside.

I've stayed at Smiths before and if you opt for a monthly rate the only extras are elec, water and wifi. If you pay daily or weekly and want to use the small pool and gym then you pay extra for that.

For some alternatives there are a few listed here that might be of interest http://www.asiaprope...-chiang-mai.php

I emailed them and they said pool and gym are extra if you books standard room, but free if you book deluxe room or better. But not mentioned on their website, so makes me a bit suspicious. So definitely wouldn't book that unless I saw it first and knew exact room and exact charges.

All lost in translation - rates for all room types here http://www.chiangmaismithres.com/Chiangmai_apartment/?page_id=6 and details of the deluxe room here http://www.chiangmaismithres.com/Chiangmai_apartment/?page_id=48 which includes "Free access to the rooftop swimming pool and fitness room" so I was wrong about daily, weekly, monthly rates (sorry about that). Access for the pool and gym are free for the deluxe rooms. No where do they mention a charge for the bath mats tongue.png

Being suspicious is sensible as is waiting to see what the room is like, where it is, what it over looks etc so maybe book into a guest house for a few nights and take a walk around the old town and see what you can find. Good luck thumbsup.gif

take a day and walk down the sois around smith. there are plenty of cute monthly stays available in old thai style / character places.

cant give specifics as i dont remember the name. but one is on the same st as smith enterance walking down towards the wat. really nice quality place, thai style wood structure.

why would you want to stay in a big ugly apartment complex if you dont have to?

I may stay 2 nights at smiths and take a look around, including the places you mentioned. Think I'm bound to find somewhere if I take a look around.
