I'm glad Prince Charles has got his priorities right:

And for those who still make the case that the radio pair are guilty of a terrible crime, I point to the cheery reaction of Prince Charles himself, shortly after he was apprised of the call. Did he not, quite appropriately, have a little fun with it, on Thursday, when he asked the waiting media: ''How do you know I'm not a radio station?'' Mirth all around, led by the journalists.

Sad that she felt she had to do that to escape.....but really, should we stop having a bit of a larf or a giggle or a prank because someone just might not be able to cope ?

Best we stop interacting with others altogether then and build our own little bubbles and cones of silence.

It was a telephone prank...not chasing a black mercedes down the highway at great speed for a photo.

Just a prank???? Trying telling that to the family she left behind. I thought all the ting tong Aussies were here in Los, obviously not!!

Condolences to her family.........

Yes, pranks, larfs and jokes that are carried out every day by millions of people without dire consequences.....go figure

Ok, say we call your loved ones and tell them that you have been caught selling some class A, your banged up in the Hilton and your sharing a bed with a guy called Big Bertha..... Hey, it's ONLY a larf (laugh), right??? You know a silly prank call, right??

Go figure yourself!!

AT the end of the day, anybody with an ounce of intelligence would be aware that the person they were about to 'prank' in this case was at risk of a severe bollocking or even losing their jobs over the matter, with all the potential financial and professional hardships that would bring. Yet these two still went ahead and did it! Just for a giggle. That is not entertainment. As it happened the woman lost a lot more than her job, and her children lost their Mother. Any attempt to defend these two and the radio station displays a distinct lack of any grip on reality.

They probably thought that the person that they were about to prank would have hung up on them in 5 seconds. But she was busy, and it wasn't her normal job, and she put the phone call through to someone else that gave out the information.

She got a severe bollocking, so was it the people bollocking her that caused her all the stress? The British media are all up in arms about the prank that started this, but they are the ones that would have stressed the nurse out. The fact that the radio station played the prank endless times would have had no effect on the nurse, since she wouldn't have even known about it if the British press hadn't kept on at her about it.

The call was for fun. No harm done and there is nothing to be ashamed of except those bad accepts.

Sad about the suicide. The radio station has ZERO culpability. The lady was obviously on the edge anyway and nobody killed her, she killed HERSELF.

You are all experts with hindsight.

Redirecting a phone call from the other side of the world does not cause someone to top themselves...I believe you need to be getting the grip.

GJ said at risk from.... She was not reprimanded, not that those 2 would have been bothered too much.

Yes, you are correct. I took it as a severe bollocking from the media, which she got, and that would have put her under more stress than the phone call.

The station have been living on the edge for a while it seems.

http://www.thedailyb...eton-prank.html

So, does this now make the station management as the ones who are responsible, as they employ the DJs and would ultimately have to approve any pranks?

Yes equally as guilty as the idiot DJs.

What about the licensing authority that issues the licenses for the radio station ?

Posted

The licensing agency would hold no culpability in this situation. They would be about as culpable as the entity that grants a driver's license to someone who then has an accident.

As long as the station met the standards at the time the license was issued, there is no problem.

Maybe it is British societies fault in general for blowing up the importance of this one pregnant lady above all other pregnant ladies.rolleyes.gif

As has been said many times, the identity of the patient is irrelevant.

This pair lied to hospital staff in order to obtain confidential information about a patient and then made that information public.

I asked you before how you would feel if this happened to a member of your family, but you declined to answer.

Will you now do so?

Yes. Guilty of invasion of privacy. Not guilty of killing her.

I would not call for them to be charged with murder.

Lynch mobs seem alive and well this century....perhaps its an English thing.

Have you ever laughed at someone elses expense ? Any of those tv shows, funniest home video, candid camera etc ?

Rarely, as they are mostly purile and unfunny.

Rarely.... means you have, so you are guilty. You had best hope nobody you laughed at topped themselves.

Not all those shows are of their own free will....many are setup for catching the unaware.

As has been said, the victim may be unaware at the time of the call, but their permission is supposed to be obtained before broadcasting it; at least in the UK.

If it isn't, then: Timeline: Russell Brand prank calls

Prank phone calls made to actor Andrew Sachs - Manuel in TV show Fawlty Towers - by Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross prompted a major row that led to Brand quitting his Radio 2 show.

Station controller Lesley Douglas resigned, Radio 2's head of compliance quit, and Ross was suspended for three months without pay.

The BBC Trust later said there was "no justification" for the show, and the incident exposed "a catalogue of errors" at Radio 2.

Will the Australians follow the BBC's example?

It's the least they can do.

And to highlight Under the broadcasting code in Australia, "a licensee must not broadcast the words of an identifiable person unless: a. that person has been informed in advance or a reasonable person would be aware that the words may be broadcast; or b. in the case of words which have been recorded without the knowledge of the person, that person has subsequently, but prior to the broadcast, expressed consent to the broadcast of the word

In the UK they have to get the victims permission to broadcast, as said in a previous post.

BBC has said the owners of the station told another station, that they tried to contact the nurses 5 times before broadcasting. They did not say if they had got through or not.
