For a number of years I have been obtaining a Marriage visa extension.

Due to a second pension I should now be elegible for a Retirement extension.

I am wondering if this would be worth while. Although slightly less hassle, it

would remove the possibility of a Work Permit.

Also, who knows when there will be a further upward shifting of the goal posts?

My inclination is to stay with the Marriage extension. Is there any other factor I

am overlooking?

Unless you are planning on leaving your wife or vice versa :o

I would stay on the existing Marriage visa.

Less money, not earning interest in the bank.

Possible to work if the opportunity arises.

I would not worry about the goal posts.

Anything could happen on that side.

1. Goalposts can, and have, changed for both types.

2. No job with retirement. No wife support without wife.

3. To change will require her signature in person at immigration (so she knows to keep an eye on you?). :o

4. Medical for retirement but one visit approval.

5. If using pension income (you can just use 800k in bank if you want) it will also require a trip to your Embassy for letter.

Thanks Astral and Lopburi.

I have noticed that the Retirement option is pushed by the local Imm. office;

presumably less hassle for them as well.

As an aside, the magic "Pension Letter" can be obtained from the British

Consulate by mail. I have found the Notary Services lady to be very helpful.

Need to contact her in advance to check for required documentation and the

ever increasing cost. (Contact details on the Embassy website).
