Hemp Clothes: Where To Buy?

I was always hesitant to buy hemp clothing, for fear that when traveling by air, the 'sniffer' dogs would react to them, making my time with Airport Security people even less enjoyable.

Wouldn't THAT be a hoot! I'd fly back to Canada and all those thuggish security guards would go nuts when the sniffer dogs went on point and I stripped naked in the airport in front of a thousand tourists. Some people would pay good money to watch that! I'm not shy about nudity and I've spent some summers naked on a beach on Hornby Island. The cel phone cameras would be flashing everywhere.

best place is to go down to the street near the chinese temple near wararot market.

There you can buy metres of chinese and thai hemp

.different grades of quality so different prices

.better to pay 50 baht more and get 5 or more years wear out of it.

You can then take the material to a tailor to get the design and size you need

in general 2 metres for a shirt /trousers should be enough

it was 100 baht a metre up to 200 the last time i looked about a year ago

years ago i used to go up far north to the akkha villages where they made the hemp

you could maybe approach a seller here and ask the names of the villages and the money would go direct to the maker.

The street i mentioned in previous post used to have around 8 weavers sitting on the side selling ,but now its all sold from one shop.......you will see the leaf banner ...thats the shop

you get a better cut at the tailors from the chinese hemp as it is woven on a wider loom

its a finer weave and costs at least twice the price of the thai which is narrower and more coarse

they are honest in the shop and will tell you the difference between the 100% and the hemp cotton mix fabrics
