My Father Has Recently Got Histhai Citizenship, Can I Apply Too?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am just wondering if my father has recently granted a Thai citizenship, as a daughter who born overseas, can I also apply for Thai citizenship? Do I require to have a PR first in order to apply? Or can I striaght away go to the Criminal Investigation division to apply? What sort of paperwork require for this application?

I have given the information from one of my friend as follow:

1. A copy of my father's ID card

2. A copy of my father's house registration

3. My father's marriage registration

4. My born certificate (translated into Thai with authority stamp to certify)

5. My passport copy

**Application fees Baht 5,000.

Do I also need to draft an official letter to request for such application? I have also been working in Thailand for 9 years with a valid work permit, in this case will I be considered first priority from such accumulation to gain the citizenship quicker?

Need some precise information to start my processing soon because my father is turning to 80 this year.

If you are older than 20, you'll have to apply citizenship on your own merit. Only Minor dependent children of naturalized thai citizen can have their parent apply citizenship for them.

hold on - on what basis was your father 'granted' Thai citizenship?

Did he go through the whole naturalisation process, or was he simply claim it via an already established birthright through blood/birth on Thai soil?

If the latter, then you'd be eligible for it via descent.

Thanks all, for your advice.

Hmm.. i guess I would have to apply on my own merit then since my father did go through the whole naturalisation process based on the marriage with my stepmother, a Thai woman birth on Thai soil.

I shall go apply for the PR asap since it's now open for submission.

Are you adopted by your stepmother?

PR applications usually open up once a year, in the month of Decembr for a couple of weeks. Since you need a lot of paperwork, you have to prepare your documents well in advance.

Read this, which is an ongoing topic and constantly being updated: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/74654-cameratas-guide-to-the-permanent-residence-process/

I have made a reply to post you made in this topic Thai Immigration Now Accepts Applications For Permanent Residency

You could apply for PR as being the child of a Thai national but would have to be under 20 and single unless you are going to school. sick and etc. More info in other topic.

Been living in Thailand for 20 over years

Above from another post seems to rule under 20 out.
