BANGKOK: -- Sukhumbhand Paribatra and Sudarat Keyuraphan would be competing neck-to-neck in the upcoming gubernatorial election, should they decide to run, according to a Bangkok Poll released on Thursday.

The poll by Bangkok University indicated that 26 per cent of respondents would vote for Sudarat while 26.1 per cent would go for Sukhumand, the incumbent Bangkok governor. His term will finish in January and the election for the new governor is set for February 17.

Neither Sukhumand nor Sudarat have officially announced that they will run for election. The poll was conducted on 1,192 Bangkokians between December 6 and 10.

Of other potential candidates, 12.5 per cent would vote for Pol Gen Seripisut Temiyavej, 11.4 per cent for Pol Gen Pongsatat Pongcharoen, 6.5 for Korn Chatikavanich. Meanwhile 17.4 per cent said they were still undecided.

The poll said 62.3 per cent of the respondents knew that the gubernatorial election was to be held on February 17 while the remainder were unaware of the date. Moreover, most (88.5 per cent) will exercise their rights, 2.2 per cent said they would not vote and 9.3 per cent others were not sure.

Respondents said they would vote for the new governor because of his experience (31.9 per cent), capabilities and forwardlooking visions (26.3 per cent) and his policies and good teamwork (17 per cent).

Of the respondents, 58.8 per cent believed that looking at the general picture, Sukhumand's performance as Bangkok governor could not be considered as outstanding.

Who is making these headlines up???

Of the respondents, 58.8 per cent believed that looking at the general picture, Sukhumand's performance as Bangkok governor could not be considered as outstanding.

How can they say that? I found his speeches during the recent flood and futsal stadium debacles absolutely entertaining. Pure gold.

Now if we can only find a way to make these Bangkok votes 'worth more' like the 3/5ths compromise. We could spin it "legit" by basing it on educational requirements, number of people employed by 'higher value' voters, etc.

:)

Sudaret's Puea Thai war chest will have the edge among all the working class. But I'm guessing the Democrats will wait to see if she's announced officially then decide to put up Korn instead. He has no baggage of bickering over the flooding. You can bet Peua Thai are desperate to also control Bangkok. Then they can use it to totally snuff out this pesky competition. Maybe this is why all the rice corruption money is being stock piled.

BANGKOK: -- If incumbent Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra were pitted against Sudarat Keyuraphan, they would be running neck-to-neck in the race to become the next governor, according to Bangkok Poll.

About 26 per cent of the respondents to the opinion poll by Bangkok University indicated that they would vote for Sudarat while 26.1 per cent would choose Sukhumbhand, whose first term ends next month. The election for the new governor is set for February 14.

The two have not formally declared their candidacy. Of the other possible faces, 12.5 per cent would back retired Pol General Seripisut Temiyavej, 11.4 per cent Pol General Pongsapat Pongcharoen and 6.5 per cent Democrat MP Korn Chatikavanich, while 17.4 per cent were still undecided.

About 62.3 per cent said they knew the election date. Most (88.5 per cent) would go to the polls on that date, 2.2 per cent would not and 9.3 per cent were not sure.

Reasons given for casting a ballot for a specific contender were his experience (31.9 per cent), capabilities and forward-looking vision (26.3 per cent), and policies and good teamwork (17 per cent).

In evaluating Sukhumbhand, 58.8 per cent believed that overall, his performance as Bangkok governor could not be considered outstanding.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration yesterday updated the city's population as 5,670,089 - 2,689,407 males and 2,980,682 females - as of October 31.

Nong Chok and Nong Khaem districts saw their populations increasing by 156,699 and 149,984, so each could get two city councillor seats in the next election, while Bang Kapi suffered a drop to 148,385 and will lose one of its current two councillor positions.

Supapong Krisanapa, director of the Administration and Registration Division, said Bang Khae district had the largest population at 191,601, while Samphanthawong had the smallest at 27,504.

The Bangkok Poll was conducted from December 6-10 with 1,192 respondents from Bangkok.

Is that the same as the English expression "not bad, not bad at all" ?

About 26 per cent of the respondents to the opinion poll by Bangkok University indicated that they would vote for Sudarat while 26.1 per cent would choose Sukhumbhand,

And 47.9% said they would vote for anyone but these two.

If people in Thailand have a choice between a buffalo idiot and another buffalo idiot and another buffalo idiot,.... all of them are buffalo idiots,

What choice does the nation have if all of them are buffalo idiots???whistling.gifwhistling.gifwhistling.gif

So yesterday they favored both and today they favor none!

I am not a native english- speaker but doesn't "to favor" mean that you like one thing over another...how can you favor both?

Isn't that a contradiction...ahm...sorry...never mind!

Sudarat has a prettier face that the other guy...
