Rimmer
Cake Baking or worse? You decide Cookery Class or Drugs factory? You decide Pattaya: a Jomtien Hotel maid called the police when she discovered 3KG of “white powder” in a rented room. Police from the local station visited the apartment in View Talay 1, Na Jomtien and were shown a bag of suspicious white powder which had drawn the maids attention. Initial speculation is that it is in fact … sugar. But, to meet their obligations to the Public and “just in case “ the Police removed the following items from the scene: A suitcase, a round cake baking tray (non stick), a blender (boxed), a plastic sieve, some books written in a “foreign language” and a notebook…. as the Maid feared that the whole collection could be used, not to bake a cake, but to manufacture drugs? Along with the haul, officers removed the rest of the forgotten goods, which included clothing and toiletries Reported in some media as “being of Arabic origin”, the former room residents were in fact from Malaysia and may have overlooked their catering and other exhibits as they left the rental apartment or, it is possible, that they had used the premises for other, subversive, reasons. A predominantly Muslim Country, Malaysia borders onto the southern tip of Thailand. slapout
The blind leading the blind, comes to mind. The cleaning lady may be the most astute of those called in to investigate this potential crime scene. Crack the chemistry books/law books to find a potential end product, that a charge can be manufactored for.

Jayman
Well the book written in Arabic is the true piece to the puzzle. Where ever will they find someone in Pattaya that can read arabic and tell them if the book contains drug/bomb recipes. Nope, I'm afraid this one will never get solved. jackspratt
I think the most disturbing thing about this story is that the RTP have, once again, failed to call upon the readily available, crack CSI/FBI/Navy Seal/CIA/Forensic Pathology team on instant tap at TVF. TommyDee
just got off the blower with "Mickie the mixer" who gave me a training course on drug production. Seems that mixing sugar with Cocaine is a no no as it totally alters the taste and would put a buyer off. Mixing it with Heroin would, of course, kill the user. If used to cut methamphetamines ( Yabba) it cant then be smoked as you wouldnt have a lungs left. HOWEVER.. some "cheap arse" ( his words) dealers have diluted Yabba with sugar in the past. can then only be sniffed ( again his words) and it appears that dealers who sell drugs which are cut with sugar lose their popularity and a lot more very quickly amongst their junkie clientele. Yabba pills, of course, need a binding agent to hold them together as a pill. that agent.. this is scary, is usually.. household cleaning products, over the counter cold medicines and lithium ....that is extracted from batteries. now thats weird! siampolee
My theory is that the book which appeared to be written in a foreign language, possibly Arabic was in fact a translated copy of the tome shown below. That of course accounts for the collection of home baking paraphernalia in the apartment. The recently departed occupants were probably making some crumpets or making out with some crumpet considering the area in question.

And Mrs Beeton wasn't really known for original work, dead at 28, nicked most of her ideas off other people...... not a Delia by any stretch.
