Can I Take My Puppy With Me In The Bus?

I can't answer your question about the bus.

But taking your puppy to and from Laos means you will export and then import your puppy for which the puppy needs to be fully vaccinated at least 21 days before acquiring a health certificate, export and import permit from the Animal Quarantine Station in Thailand and most probably also from Laos.

Besides this, such a trip may be very stressful (and traumatic) for a puppy, especially if the pup is very young or not (yet) properly socialized, making it prone to disease.

What Nienke says is common sense....isn.t it?

that aside........as a fellow bus passenger I wouldnt be too happy having a dog on board aswell.

do everyone a favour, including the dog and leave it here with a responsible person.

So a bit like Backpackers then.

Don't take your dog on the bus. It would be a nightmare for you and the dog.

Taking a dog across a border? Good luck doing that easily.

Need someone to look after your dog? I recommended the Happy Gambol to someone this week, dog hotel in Mae Rim.

Alternatively, if you're desperate, I have a small dog and yard, I'm sure my better half would look after your dog for a few days for a small fee.

and a nightmare for other travellers ohmy.png

I would rather have a puppy on a bus than screaming brats and people shouting into their mobile phones.

Still not a good idea from the puppies point of view though.

Seeing as I've ridden the bus a lot, I'll throw in my 2 cents.

If you have a really small dog, tucked away in a carrier, who will be totally quiet - then maybe, just maybe, you could buy and extra ticket and put some money in the right hands to make the bus staff 'look the other way'. I think you'd have to be really lucky, but maybe could happen. If your dog is too big to be concealed in a small, inconspicuous carrier, then I seriously doubt you could make this happen, even with non-silly bribe money paid.

To add to the difficulty, its tough for the bus employees to take a nice private bribe when there is a very high probability that somebody else will know that you have a dog with you - seeing as there are so many people in such a small space. Its unlikely that too many people will want to take a small bribe for something that other passengers may seriously object to.

Also to add more to the difficulty - many Thais are superstitious about dogs in their cars (its bad luck I'm told). Typical bus drivers most probably fit into the socio-economic category that shares this belief... and also a lot of typical bus passengers. This could also make things much more difficult - or impossible.

Basically, the odds are against you. And even if you beat the odds and make this happen (without spending as much as you would have for a private car and driver) - like another poster mentioned, you still have to deal with crossing the border with an animal - more trouble! It just doesn't sound like a worthwhile plan to pursue.
