Hourly Rate Or Day Rate?

Featured Replies

I am curious to how Thai people are paid.

I am aware it's 300 baht per day minimum.

1 working day is 8 hours and does'nt include break times.

300 / 8 = 37.5 Baht per hour.

My question is, are Thai employees paid on a day rate basis or on a hourly rate basis. In regards to the law saying the minimum wage is 300 Baht per day does this mean that if someone works half a day (4 hours) then they only get 150 Baht or get the whole 300 baht.

Cheers.

300 baht per day (from 1st Jan in some provinces) is for full time employees, many companies can pay less by employing staff on a temporary part-time contract and paying them by the hour. Restaurants are a good example where, up country, many waiters are students who work as long as 8 hours in the evening to support themselves they all have part-time contracts and some earn as little as 1,500 - 2,000 baht per month - and as the owners will tell you plus tips!!!

As stated, 300 Baht per day isnt law as of yet. Construction workers tend to be a daily basis, most others monthly salary. Whether daily or monthly, reason for half day absence would be at the discretion of the boss if pay is deducted.
