New York Times Access Problem

I haven't been able to access the NY Times website for the past two days. Previously there wasn't any hint of a problem. I'm not talking about not being able to access articles due to lack of an online subscription. No access to the website at all. Times out every time. I have no problem accessing any other websites whatsoever.

Anybody else with this problem ? I'm in Bangkok.

Have you tried changing your DNS to the google DNS?

https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using

The TRUE DNS sometimes has issues with resolving certain domains/IP addresses. I have not got any information as to their cache times, but when sites drop off they stay dropped off for some time. Having the google DNS set up can help this.

No problem getting it with 3BB in Chiang Mai.

No problem with 3BB in Nonthaburi either. That's what makes it look like a DNS issue. If you aren't implicit in your DNS choice you will default to the local DNS for your ISP. They're not terrible and they are in 3rd position for my DNS but AFTER google's 2 DNS servers. No slight on TRUE or 3BB, but who REALLY runs the internet? wink.png

Anybody got any ideas on the Tab 2 7.0?

There is a NYT app. in the Play Store?

I can access the NYT from PC's on True DSL in Bangkok, on Android tablets and Smartphones via DTAC and TrueMove H mobile broadband - website via a browser and the app.

Moved to Lat Phrao. Still can't access it at times, but more often yes. Though I'm sure it has nothing to do with being in Lat Phrao.wink.png

Which ISP do you use? Are you on a mobile data connection? PC? Mac? Browser? What DNS settings do you use?

More details, rather than none, might yield some recommendations.

There is a NYTimes app in Play Store.

I got an email NYTimes Customer Care and they said that my subscription did not include tablet access and I will have to upgrade to Web + Tablet @ $20 per month and I will do that. They changed something recently. All they used to have was the Android app but they upgraded it. I cannot always read nytimes articles on the tablet and have to have a proxy server turned on to read it on my desktop.

I just use the free "top stories".

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nytimes.android&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5ueXRpbWVzLmFuZHJvaWQiXQ..

A possible, interesting alternative would be to give someone back home a home delivery subscription to the Grey Lady, which yields full, unlimited web access. Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge.
