I know where to go, have been at the IDC several times, but just brought some food and things for detained children. never tried to find out how to handle a described case like that exactly. ubonjoe
Official fine is 500 baht per day with a max of 20,000 baht. Judge can reduce it plus each day in IDC reduces fine. Hard to set the date for departure without knowing when money for fine will be available. If entire fine is paid it might be possible to get him out and enough time to leave on his own with ticket out.
wans
I would have thought that if you were already in IDC then you would have already paid a fine or done prison time and be free to go when you have a ticket, trip to airport free I could be wrong

Mario2008
If he is in the IDC, that means he will appear before a judge who wil sentence him to pay the overstay. Normaly at 200 baht a day. If he doesn't pay, he will serve time in a regular jail and have a criminal record. The moment he has paid the fine or served the sentence insted of the fine he will be taken to the IDC. There he will be detained till he has a plane ticket out of Thailand to his homecountry. Near the moment the plane leaves he will be transported to the airport and escorted to the plane. Not sure transportation to the airport is also asked for. member badbanker is very well informed with these cases and your best source of information.

Thanyaburi Mac
It's been some time since I've visited a "guest" of the IDC at the Soi Suan Plu Immigration department, but easy to find: -- As you're facing Immigration from the street, walk on down the left hand sub-soi all the way; -- At the end you'll find an outdoor waiting area, the small gate to the IDC is just in front; -- Ask the policeman at the gate if you can go to the IDC Office, which is to the right of the gate, all on the first floor; -- Ask there for detailed information on the guest. -- FYI, the IDC itself is to the left of the small entrance gate and through another gate where you get "wanded" and sign-in. Cannot take cell phone, camera, etc, inside. Mac
NancyL
The detainee's Embassy should be involved and could be a good source of information. They probably would like to know that he has friends willing to pay his fine and airline tickets. Don't have specific information abou the Indian Embassy, but I know the Embassies of other countries could be helpful with their nationals. zappalot
thanks everyone so far from my experience the embassies of the poorer countries give a shit on their citizens...
Thanyaburi Mac
Forgot one item. I paid baht 1,000 to the LT in the IDC office which was to cover trip to the airport, Don Muang at that time, plus the police escort. Believe the guy I was helping out, a Lao-Hmong who'd been in a three-year overstay situation, was being deported, thus the escort to make sure he departed. Included a tip, I suppose.... Popular Post Badbanker
Actually if you are detained at the IDC you will go to court within 24-48 hours and a Judge will order you fined based on the length of overstay. It can be between 3,000 to 10,000 baht and if you have the money to pay the fine you will go back to the IDC. If you do not have the money to pay the court fine, you will be sent to Pathumthani Prison to serve 1 day for every 200 baht of your fine. After you have served your fine you will be returned to the IDC. A friend or an embassy can buy a ticket to return you only to your country of nationality. Please tell the airline that the ticket you are buying is for a deportation or the airline may not take you. You will charged 1,000 baht by immigration for transportation to the airport. You will be deported and your passport given to the captain of the aircraft that you are to be deported with. Your passport will be returned to you on arrival at your country of birth!
NancyL
Zappalot -- the IDC expert has come in and given "the word". You and the detainee are very lucky he responded so quickly. Believe everything Bandbanker said.
beano2274
My friend was detained at IDC, then put up in front of the Judge sentenced and sent to Pathumthani Klong 6 (think that is the Klong), after a while he received the plane ticket from his family via the Embassy, was driven to the Airport and went back to the UK, since then he has returned to Thailand. Oh and the Embassy (British) were involved, keeping his family and me informed so that things could be made available for him, whilst waiting for his family to get the money together for the plane ticket, and his new passport. Badbanker
You may return to Thailand at will and there is no black listing. Generally embassies are helpful and communicate only the things you want to your family members. The record for deportations is still with a Swedish gentleman who has been deported 9 times, although there are a couple of Brits who are trying to take his crown away. I think it must be the competitive Olympic Spirit still enthusing them PS I lurk a lot but don't comment often!
