Hiring Car/driver In Thanaleng/vientiane Area

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Does anyone have any recommendations . Would be grateful for contact details. Just a regular 4/5 passenger vehicle as its for a trip to about 85km from city center on a main highway. Drop Off then pick up at a later date .

Appreciate quick responses . Extensive Web search just gives same Europcar recommend which is expensive and inconvenient. Tried a lot of alternatives from web but to no avail.

Basically it's Europcar or you can try finding something else locally, perhaps by asking around; it should be relatively easy since you are proposing car rental with a driver. Europcar is a very good car rental agency and unlike their Thai counterparts, they even offer cross-border service, either self-drive or with a driver.

I've used EuropCar for six years now, agree, a bit expensive, but I've found them to be reliable. They'll pick you up at Thannaleng, drop you off where ever you want, and will do the reverse trip at your call.

Alternatively, you could ask for a van there from the touts out front at Lao Immigration at Thannaleng. I've found there's usually several vans around with decent prices, say $50-$75 a day. Not really sure how reliable they'd be for a pickup later but the driver would most likely have a cell phone so you could check periodically.

Speaking of cell phones, I buy a pre-paid Lao SIM on arrival, along with some time, works fine.
