He posted about that place before on this thread. I asked him for the location before on this thread. So far, not a word. As far as I'm concerned, if people don't know where it is and the news provider won't say where it is, it might as well not exist. Even a rough idea of where it is would be better than nothing. Just saying it's somewhere on Pattaya Tai is too rough. It's a long road with a plethora of small businesses. BTW -- can't find that name on google either. But appears to be another one of those nam neung focused Viet food tailored to Thai tastes joints. Seems like almost everything has that bologna type sausage meat which I hate. I don't see any Pho or Bun Cha bowls. But does seem worth at least checking out. Popular Post irishken
I'll give two reviews from my recent trip to Pattaya. One positive and the other no so much. Both have probably been reviewed here already. Gulliver's traveler's tavern on beach road. Very impressed for with place. Its meant to be an English pub but it really doesn't feel like it or look like it. More American i think. Anyway, the food and service was excellent. We went a couple of times as we found it a nice comfortable place to relax with the kids, eat and then have a game of pool. Always with the waiters close by to fill our wine glasses. My Wife is from Isaan and a chef and she said some of the Isaan/Thai dishes she had were as good as any she has made or eaten elsewhere. All Thai chefs in the kitchen, she was expecting them to be from Maymar. Two standouts for me apart from the Thai food i ate, was the lamb shank massaman and the steak pie. The pie doesn't come with anything extra but believe me you won't need and sides. Its huge. Both were very nice. The negative one is from The Hilton rooftop restaurant. We went on the day of Chinese new year and the hostess greeted us very nicely but then showed us the menu to point out that their isn't much for kids. Anyway we went in and it took 10 minutes before we were given menus, another 10 minutes too place our order and after 40 minutes we still hadn't received our drinks. My Wife usually would never say anything or allow me to complain but we were now getting pissed off. I could see my drinks on the bar for at least 10 minutes and they had been forgotten about. We pulled the waiter and he said he was sorry and they were really busy. We were one of only 3 tables in the restaurant that was been used. Outside was busy but that seemed to have many staff and the lovely looking hostess all dressed in white seemed to just be there too look lovely. I seen about 10 waiters walking up and down with menus but never any food or drinks in hand. As our first choice was not available we both ordered lamb shanks and it came after 1 hour. It really wasn't worth waiting for. The lamb was soft but the sauce was flavourless and the whole dish was just bland. We could only order chips and onion rings for the kids and and you literally could have put them between two slices of bread and made a nice sambo as the portions were that small. No desert ordered and the bill came to 3300 baht for 2 mains and to drinks. Onion rings and chips were given for free because of the slow service. I doubt ill be back there. Oh,and the dress code of smart casual. Me and the wife would always wear something nice going to a place like this but once in side i could see chang muscle tops on blokes with beer spilled on them and sandals which on the website says are not allowed Edited March 9, 2018 by irishken 5
Popular Post darksidedog
Well I am happy to say that I stumbled on to a real winner this afternoon. I was heading back from Mabprachan lake and spotted a place called Taco House, situated where Retox used to be about 500m from Planet football as you are heading back in to town on the left. I do enjoy good Tex Mex, so being somewhat hungry stopped and went in. Seriously glad that I did. Very nicely done out, very attentive staff and a really nice host. Menu was awesome and pretty reasonably priced. I went for the Beef Tacos, which were as good as anything I have ever had in Thailand and way better and bigger than anything offered in town and about half the price. Everyone in there seemed to be impressed with the food. I can see this place becoming very popular, especially as the range of items on the menu will ensure there is something for everyone. Kid friendly place too and plenty of big screens showing a variety of sports. Apparently it just opened last week and I will definitely be going back regularly. 2

I'm not even aware of a restaurant in town with outdoor tables that would stop people from smoking in the outdoor tables. That doesn't mean it's good. But it is normal here.

It's just a hazard of eating out here. I take that into consideration in choosing where to eat, but if I otherwise like the food and prices, smoking isn't going to stop me (or most people). Jingthing
NIKA Cafe Russian, Ukrainian, and Italian Jomtien tripadvisor: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293919-d13148703-Reviews-NIKA_cafe-Pattaya_Chonburi_Province.html Marked on Map: http://www.expat-condos.com/jomtien-beach-condominium-map.html At the Jomtien Beach Condominium, close to the Beach road side, adjacent to the better known St. Petersburg Restaurant (also Russian of course) which was previously "reviewed" here. This is a nice little find. I posted about the St. Petersburg before but this is about their adjacent neighbor. The picture menu with English makes this place fully accessible to Anglos. The food I've sampled is quite decent and prices fair as well. Probably there is a benefit to the customer of major competition next door. So far I've tried mostly the Russian/Ukrainian side of the menu. Meat stuffed pancakes 120, borscht 100, sorrel soup 120, giant potato pancake with meat and mushrooms in a cream sauce 200. I also tried an Italian dish which was an eggplant and cheese bake for 120. Not actually eggplant parm but quite pleasant. Their Italian menu includes lots of pasta and pizza choices including an unusual calzone with chicken 280. To drink you might want to try their Kvass (like a home brewed Russian style coca cola made from bread) served in a choice of sizes. This place won't be on Michelin's radar, but for me their standout dish so far which they label as their house specialty is their potato pancake with the cream sauce side thing. The potato pancake was Russian style and very delicious. Definitely a different style than Swiss Rosti (which I'm not knocking, just pointing out they aren't the same). The side cream thing was fantastic. The portion of cream sauce was absurdly large and I only ate about a quarter of it. My only complaint is that I wish there was more meat and mushroom pieces in it. I wonder do Russians really eat all that sauce? Doesn't matter, eating less of it you still get to enjoy the wonderful flavor. I think this dish would appeal to most people but perhaps especially to Swiss people as they can compare to Rosti main course dishes and Americans as there is some similarity to creamed chipped beef breakfast but with an unusually good cream sauce. thailien8
Disappointed to see that Easy Health had closed after only a few months, but today noticed that it has only changed location, and is open on the other (west) side of Third Road, in a smaller venue. No change in the interesting menu. It's now directly across from Buffalo Bar.

Popular Post kdrayong
Following here up the comments from the 'Where to buy good pizzas' thread about 'Bei Gerhard' , Naklua Soi 31. Gerhard sold the business some months ago. Since then the quality of food dropped a lot IMO. The service always used to be a mess there. Now, Gerhard himself moved to a new place, called 'Das Wirtshaus' close to BigC Extra. Hopefully with new service staff. Gerhard is a well known chef. Especially his sauces and soups are delicious IMO. Even in the Swabian region in Germany, where he has his roots, a comparable dish of 'Maultaschen' will be hard to find. Until now he hasn't received his work permit, but rumours say, that he might open this Friday. The new location is the former Walee's place.
