Merry Christmas all!

Here's a new one for you. I've recently applied for a teaching job in Kuala Lumpur. They have a pay scale and I need to prove I worked at a Thai school about ten years ago to get the higher salary. Is there any way I can get proof of this via a Thai govt. dept.? My old passport that had the non-imm B visa is long gone, and I don't have the contract anymore! My old hotmail email that I used all the time around then has been compromised and I haven't been able to log in to that for many years. I left the school under a cloud due to their breaking the contract (no surprise there) so am guessing they may be less than communicative (I haven't had a reply back from them yet, anyway) - any ideas for somehow getting any record of proof of employment?

Thanks in advance for all offers/suggestions!

If you had a work permit why not try at the Ministry of Labour to get proof that you worked for that period. Also if you find out about your old extensions of stay then the Immigration office or indeed the Ministry of Labour might have a copy of your original contract on record.

Per above, the Labour office should have a record of your work permit. if lucky, the local labour office where you worked might still have a copy of your contract.

E-mail the school, or something who you know there, and ask them to write a letter stating the period you worked at the school + salary etc. They do it all the time for Thai teachers when they want to get a visa, and for their CV when they are going to leave, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem to get something like that.

If you can't get something in writing, get in touch with someone who you worked with at the school and got on well with, then put them as a verbal reference. If they've since made head of department or similar, that'd be a big bonus. Chances are, the Malaysian school won't call them, but they'll see that you've got nothing to hide when you provide them with the details (And even if they do call, it'll be a Thai person whom you got on well with, so should be a fairly decent reference).

Proof that you worked somewhere, particularly if it was for less than 1 year (I assume from your post, that you didn't have an enduring relationship with the school, soto speak), shouldn't really be all that important to the Malaysian school. It's probably not going to make or break your application if the "proof" that you provide isn't as concrete as what they'd like, since it's probably just another drop in the bucket soto speak.
