Hi guys,

We are currently still lokking for some talented ball players to join out team "Stamtec" in the BISL (Bangkok International Softball League)

Anybody who is ready to swing some serious bat or dive for some line drives could be contacting me Dirk Brijs 015754528 so i could give you more details on how to try out for the team.

Also for the not so serious players but just people want to have some fun afternoon out for some sunday ball in the park, is welcome to join us at the fields of the Pattaya Softball team as we do play every sunday a series of pick up games of softball there. The games are great fun and are played in a very relaxed atmosphere. The games are organised by a group of local expats frpm Pattaya who, in case you didnt bring any equipment with you, will provide you with everything needed. All types of players and all types of nationalioties are welcome to join. The games will be played every sunday afternioon and start at 12.30pm. You can also bring the wifes/girlfriends along and kids as there is a shaded area to sit and drinks and food are provided at the spot.

The fields are located driving up to Sukhumvit road in the direction of Sattahip turning left just past the GREENWAY DRIVING RANGE (little past the Sukhumvit and Theprasit Road intersaction past the Lotus and Aquarium) following that Soi for about 4km till you see a sign on your left side stating PATTAYA FLYING CLUB turn left and for another 1'5km you will be seeing the softball field on your left hand side.

If you would like some more info on the things going on there please contact Alan Rutsky at 061574795

Hope to see all of you out there real soon on one of those fun events.

now lets play ball

Sounds like a lot of fun. Any games in Bangkok?

I do run a team playing in the Bangkok league so interested in that call me at 015754528.

before making this roster we need you to try out here in Pattaya or at Thana City in Bangkok which both are used as our training fields. If you reside in Bangkok check out the Bangkok Forum as the same post is stated there with directions how to reach Thana City. or just come over for the weekend to Pattaya.

Sounds fun. I haven't thrown a ball in years but fit enough to play. I'll try it and give it a go next time I'm in Pattaya since I always wanted to play softball again.

Nice map. Do you know the name of the road so that I can tell the motor-taxi driver how to get there?

Hey Dirk, you've finally got a volunteer!! :D

I was beginning to think everyone in Pattya was as old and lazy as me. Or maybe softball just aint their game.

Let's hope this is the start of many :o

Good luck :D

Isn't softball the same as rounders , a game for girls :D:D

What's the difference between Softball, rounders and baseball. Why so many versions of the same basic game?

Just curious :o

Just curious :o

Rounders is a sport which originated in Ireland. A team consists of a maximum of 15 players and a minimum of 6 of whom no more than 9 may be on the field at one time. [1] The teams try to score points ("rounders") by completing a circuit of posts. The sport is very old and it has been documented as early as the seventeenth century. Baseball and softball evolved from rounders (see origins of baseball); the earliest literary mention of rounders calls the game "base-ball". The chief differences between rounders and baseball or softball are:

the rounders bat is much shorter than a baseball or softball bat, and is usually swung one-handed.

there is no foul territory.

balls and strikes aren't called, so there are no walks or strike-outs.

posts are sometimes used instead of bases made of stuffed fabric (but in school playing areas the bases are usually just painted on the asphalt surface)

the circuit of posts has a different shape – the final post in the circuit is not in the same place as the spot where the batsman stands

as it is today considered a child's game the distance between posts is much shorter (12 m) than the distance between bases in either baseball or softball.

Baseball is made harder on the actual batter as a Pitcher will be throwing you a a stone hard ball of about 5cm diameter at you at speed up to 100MpH with less or more movement depending on what type of pitch he is throwing. (Curve,Splitter, 2seem fastball, 4 seem fastball. changeup and so on)

Then the game we play here is called slow pitch softball and is a pure hitters game as a a ball of about 12" is tossed at the batter underhand. Infield defenders are expecting that ball hit at them with speed messuring well over 130MpH just standing at a short distance of 50Ft away from the guy hitting the ball. So as the pitching might look girlie to alot of people you might come over and try it out one time. Protection gear is adviced the first few times you play the field after that you will get used to the pain by a rock hitting you at 120MpH from time to time.

Thanks very much Dirk. :o

I learn something new every day.

If you let us know when the games are, I'll try to get along to watch.

A bit too crotchety these days to participate I'm afraid - 'girlie game' not withstanding. (only joking :D )

Mobi.

always happy to see people come and watch too. Great place to meet some new friends and talk your way through a sunday afternoon with some beers or sodas. Food is available as well so no worries at all.

The games start every sunday at 1.00pm.
