A retired police officer was killed instantly after driving his car against the traffic and colliding head-on with an 18-wheel lorry on the Asian Highway in Sing Buri province.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 14:30 on 2 August, at kilometre marker 108+600 in Moo 8, Chi Nam Rai subdistrict, In Buri district. Police Sub-Lieutenant Montein Phukhao from In Buri Police Station, along with rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, responded to the incident.

At the scene, a black Mitsubishi Mirage with Kanchanaburi registration was found wrecked in the leftmost lane, facing the wrong direction. Inside was the body of 72-year-old Police Sub-Lieutenant Wisuwat, a retired immigration officer who lived in the local area. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Medical tubing was discovered attached to the victim’s body, showing he suffered from a pre-existing medical condition and was receiving treatment.

Roughly 100 metres from the crash site, a white Mitsubishi 18-wheel lorry bearing Chachoengsao plates was parked with visible damage to its side and a broken central axle. The lorry driver, Mr Wathana aged 60, from Chainat province, remained at the scene to give a statement.

Mr Wathana recounted: “I was driving in the left lane when the car suddenly came straight at me in the wrong direction. Even though I swerved into the middle lane, the car still hit me.”

Investigators suspect that the deceased may have lost consciousness behind the wheel due to his medical condition, leading him to veer into oncoming traffic. Police are continuing their inquiries.

What can one say but he should have known better - RIP

Years as a policemen...and still didn't understand the danger!

It takes a lot more than losing consciousness to drive onto the off-ramp of a highway and enter the lane of opposing traffic, that is just a total and complete lack of survival skills and common sense.
