Specific Type Of Issan Dance In Bangkok

Featured Replies

I think there are several types of Issan Dance -- most of them seem to be slow, graceful and performed just as a dance.

However, there is a particular boisterous, lusty form which is usually performed by 2 to 8 girls as accompaniment to merry songs. The key characterstic is that the girls do identical steps in phrases of 8 beats or so and the girl to the front left is the one who chooses the next step. It is very different from the slower graceful ones.

I have seen this dance regularly at a couple of bars in Pattaya. And I saw it during Loy Krathong on a stage in Bangkok.

Two Questions:

1. Where can I find a venue in Bangkok that has the boisterous dance + songs regularly? I want to take a friend to see it.

2. Can somebody find a video of it online so that I have a more precise description of what I am looking for? All the videos when I search for "Issan Dance" seem to be of the slower, classical, and I am afraid rather sleepy / boring kind.

Would it be possible to edit the videos with some software that cuts away every second frame or so?

Have you tried watching some luk thung or mor lam videos? I dont think "isaan dance" is going to turn up anything useful.
