I know we have had many great threads on restaurants in and around the Pattaya area. I personally love these threads as they expose me to places I never would have known about and I have found many great meals from the reviews of other TVF members.

My biggest issue is not understanding the exact location to these great finds. To try and help out in this area I created a completely public google map for restaurants in the Pattaya Area. Anyone with a google account can change/delete/edit points of interest on this map. Of course it wouldn't be so nice to be deleting stuff but everyone should feel free to add new places they enjoy eating at to the map. It makes it that much easier for everyone to locate the place when going to eat. Even if you don't have a smart phone with google maps built in that will take you directly to any location on a google map you still can look at the map before you venture out to get an idea of where it's located.

In any case, here's the link to the map https://maps.google....000cbece5&msa=0

I have added a few spots and already others have added even more. Hopefully we can keep this a continually updated project since things around here can change quite often.

You might suggest that people posting new restaurants also add the GPS coordinates since this is the easiest way to find some of these obscure locations.

I attempted to post the GPS for the curry place on the dark side, but it doesn't re-appear when the map is accessed.

The procedure to locate and post the GPS is:

1) Right-click the location and select "What's here?"

2) A green arrow will appear - Left-Click the arrow

3) Copy the GPS coordinates in the pop-up window. You can enter the coordinates into your phone or GPS in your car.

I tried the "Save to Map" option, but the green arrow is not there when you access the URL again . . . sad.png

on the bottom left of any google maps page it says maps lab. If you click on that you can enable lang/long marker support

Adds an option to the context menu that lets you drop a mini marker showing the latlng of the position that the cursor was pointing at when the context menu was evoked

As for adding or changing things on the map I posted in the OP, just make sure you are logged into google and then hit the edit button. You now have the ability to drop new markers wherever you want. When completed click the done or save button.

That said.. if anyone wants to just post a restaurant recommendation in a thread and also gives the coordinates then I am happy to add it to the map. Certainly coordinates are all we really need to find a place nowadays but you still need something to tell you the coordinates.

Thanks, but there is no such thing as "Maps Lab" anywhere to be found on the page I'm viewing. I'm logged into Google, but likewise - no "edit" button anywhere. Maybe different Browsers? I'm using Firefox 17.0.1.

No big deal - I was only offering a suggestion to people posting new restaurants.

No matter your browser you should have no problems editing the map as long as you are logged in. It's a public collaboration open to all users.

Great idea!!!!

Yes it is, but with the amount of idi@ts out there I am waiting for the first instance of someone deleting stuff "just for fun". Any way of doing this that will allow the OP (or any voluntary "moderator") to have control of the map so that contributions will be vetted?

And a question; how do you get that nifty fork and knife icon? I am only able to use the place marker.

Let us look into this....

Just tried to find the kebab stand in Soi Khao Talo, but couldn't find it. The location on the map would be the New Inn.

Sent from my GT-N7000 using Thaivisa Connect App

It's right next to the 7/11 near soi 12 I believe. He's out there every night after about 6pm.

Next time I go there I will mark the coordinates more accurately.

Looks like we either make it public for all to edit or keep a list of specific contributors. It's a bit like wiki in that anyone could go changing the stuff at a win. I wanted it to have the best chance of it being useful to as many as possible so completely public seemed the way to start. If it becomes a popular idea then we could always add volunteers to the contributor list but I was hoping we could just ask be adults and leave it open for all to edit.

To change the icon, on the screen that allows you to edit the description and text just click on the icon and a list of other choices will come up.

then I was too early, I needed my kebab fix in the afternoon.

So maybe a good idea to add when those places are open for business.

Definitively needs some kind of control. For example La Baguette French Bakery (Naklua Rd) has been entered twice. Mind you, I'm not volunteering!biggrin.png

I don't see any double entries but I did notice that someone moved one of the 1st landmarks I put down completely across town. Maybe it's expecting too much that this would work in the public domain like this.

Jayman.

I see someone has kindly put the Caddy Shack on the map but its about 200m off location, are you happy for me to move it?

Let's keep trying this a bit more. If we have more problems, we can always take a different approach!

HA! That was me! I wasn't sure of the exact location, so I just gave it a shot. Missed it by this much...

Just got back from there. Fish and chips were superb as usual.

I am happy that others are taking the initiative to add places to the map. I hope it works out well. By all means if you see something you know is not correct then feel free to correct it..

Not that I'm one for setting up rules but the only real no-no I can see is deleting spots others have listed or completely changing the entry to be inaccurate.

If you want to add comments about a place already listed, I think you should be free to do so. Adding operating hours to the comments is a great idea. Obviously know that your comments can be changed by anyone. If it's something you want on the record then by all means free free to post it here on TVF where things are more monitored and regulated.

Caddy Shack in its rightful place. You actually had the Caddy Shack where the Lion Pub is but that's a sports bar with food so I wont add it

Great Job guys! Keep that coming, this is what we needed!

Still trying to locate the kebab stand in Khao Talo...guess I have to make a recon mission.

Phil: copy that.

I'm gonna make a trip down there this week and make sure and get an accurate locale on it. But if you are standing in front (facing) of the 7/11 on khao talo near soi 12 then the kebab spot is just to the left of the 7/11. He sets up on that dirt road that is there. That soi might even have a number but I never paid attention. There are several bars directly across the street from it.

Just got me a few kebabs from khoa talo. He's on soi 7, attached to the 7/11. H says he shows up like 5pm and goes home when he sells out (2am ish?) I was just there at like 0130 and it looked close to the end.

Tried to add the Green Tree on Soi 1 but just can't get it to work. But this is a great idea! I'll bookmark it.

Not sure how to add to the map. But I can suggest for Mexican food, Mikes Tex Mex Restaurant, and Tequila Reef Cantina on Soi 7, close to beach road. Pretty good Mexican food. Needs better hot sauce and hotter salsa, but over all pretty good. I was raised in Southern California so Mexican food is in my DNA, and I liked both places.

Also suggest Cucumber Inn Pub & Restaurant on South Pattaya Rd. Soi 24, opposite Tuk Com. Never had a bad meal there. Good sandwiches, good Thai food, nice staff. Pay a visit if going to Tuk Com for dvd's, cd's and other assorted electronic goods.

I was so free and added a Restaurant on Pattaya Darkside.

'The Offshore Base' is the new Name

In the former Titty Twister Complex you'll find beside a new management a nice renovated Restaurant and Pool Bar.

The new Chef approved himself as a Michelangelo with the Pan.

He has a fast raising frequent customer group and with his relatively young age he has a golden hand for European, Thai. Indian Food, Steak and Pizzas.

Beside a nice natural Surroundings, life Music on Saturdays ("The 'ol Roustabouts" blew the customers last Saturday from the Chairs, great event with this fantastic Band), Free Dart, Free Pool Billard, Free Wireless and a 2.5 x 2.5 Meter TV Projector makes the Sport events every night to a life show ... come and see yourself since opening (6th of Oct) the Number of customers is raising fast and many pop up every day once they have found and tried it.
