Chiang Mai Dlt

Just returned from doing a green book transfer.

The ladies at windows 3 and 4 are very helpful. We had a minor snafu - the new owner wanted the bike to be registered in BKK - where it is now plated - and not CNX.

They patiently explained what he needed to do, and to which DLT in BKK to have it done.

Great experience.

I've never had any dramas there, think just those turning up with dodgy green books.

Yeah - the only sticky point was when the man who checks the serial numbers looked at the headlight, which is non-stock, he asked if it was custom.

I told him that it was on the bike when I bought it in 2005, and that seemed to satisfy. Speaking very politely of course.

I just purchased my first scooter from an ad listed on Thai Visa classifieds and live in CM. I don't know all the ins and outs of transferring the green book into my name, but the scooter came with the green book, insurance card, and the registered owner even supplied me with a copy of his passport. So what is the first thing I should do to transfer the green book into my name? I don't need to have the seller present with me, do I? Also just out of curiosity are there services that I can take all my scooter related paperwork and passport to and let them do all the legwork? Please let me know if there is a link for a scooter purchasing newbie like me, thanks a plenty!

If the seller does not accompany you then the seller must sign the transfer form and the appropriate mandate form and witnessed by 2 people. These documents can be found at the vehicle license office. I guess you could download from the gov web site.

You will need the certificate of residence from Immigration (or your embassy) or if you have a wok permit then a copy of that.

You take the scooter into the vehicle center where it will be valued and a small % transfer tax paid (I can't remember the %). Pay all the transfer fees, get the green book updated with your name/details and away you go.

Thank you so much for the info regarding transfer of name on the green book!
