I currently have a one year retirement visa. I have been out of Thailand for the last few months and now I need to update my visa for another year. My problem is that I only have 10 months left on my current US passport. I think I read that you need 18 months in your passport. Will they give me an additional year extension even though my passport is only good for 10 months ? Can I get a 30 day extension ? I think it takes about 2 weeks to get a new passport but my visa runs out in a few days. What are my options ?

You are talking about a one year extension of stay from immigration right? You will first get until passport expiration date and when you return with the new passport you will receive the full extension for one year when they make the transfer. Not a problem.

Yes, This is for an extension of stay for one year. I read somewhere that you required 18 months on your passport for the one year. Does this not apply to extensions as well ? So I assume that if I get my new passport in the next few months I just go and they put new stamp in passport and extend to the one year date .

Thanks guys ! I was hoping that was the case. I was just concerned when I read the 18 month requirement. I was thinking maybe they say " sorry you need to have 18 months in Passport....have a nice day "

Maybe I am getting old I forget...hahaha

Am I correct to think that I need the following:

1. Photos

2. Application completed

3. Passport copies

4. Bank statement and or letter of income

5. health statement ??? do I need

6. Place of residence ??? do I need

Am I forgetting anything ?

Thanks

The 18 month requirement is for non immigrant one year visa issue from a Consulate - not for extension from immigration. No medical is required at most locations. If you already have extension from same location no residence or map information will likely be required but best to have something in case asked. Don't forget TM.7 with 4x6cm photo taken within six months and fee and copy of departure card. They may also want to see last 90 day address report receipt but that is not a normal requirement.
