can you recommend any programs or is online the best choice eg google? platform is flexible as i will be buyimg hardware soon and it will in part depend on software choice.

The best, and only, one I've heard is google. Pretty good for Thai IMO.

Google translate works well English to Thai, but not vice versa, from my experience.

I assume the op doesn't need text to speech for english. I've never heard google's english - I'll check it out.
