Hi:

I've read all the posts on this topic and have just a few questions.

I received my WP & visa extension in late December, and three weeks later my new employer decided to fire me while I’m on probation, which it has every right to do. My last day on the job will be 14 February (Happy Valentine’s Day!).

Some questions for the experienced hands here:

1) I’m sure the HR Department won’t bother to tell me that it has cancelled my WP or when it did. (The WP is in my possession.) Would I be in trouble since I’d be living in Thailand under a visa extension for a cancelled WP? (I'd like to stay about three more weeks to get my end-of-February paycheck.)

2) How would I cancel my visa extension if I’m unaware of my WP cancellation? My visa was extended in a suburban provincial office near my employer out there; can I cancel the extension at Chaeng Wattana given that I live in BKK?

3) If I decide to repatriate to my home country, do I need to cancel my visa or can I simply leave? (Ironically I paid for a reentry permit, so the simple act of leaving wouldn’t cancel it. If I repatriate, I doubt I would return to Thailand anytime soon, or possibly at all, so by this December the visa extension would expire on its own.)

Thank you for all your help,

Paul

it seems you are on an extension of stay based on working. The day our employemnt ends, the 14th of Fabruary is the day you must cancel your Work Permit and permsion to stay and leave the country. You can get an extra 7 days to leave the country for 1,900.

You go to both labour department and immigration with a letter from your employer, stating your last day of work (14th of feb).

If you want to stay longer than 7 days, get a tourist visa in a neighbouring country.
