BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung said yesterday that he would demand an explanation from the police about the violent clashes with protesters in November.

He made this promise after watching video clips of police firing teargas at the protesting Pitak Siam group on November 24 and of police arresting a television cameraman. The clips were shot by reporters, who played them when Chalerm testified in front of a House sub-committee in charge of finding facts about the November 24 crackdown.

Chalerm, looking serious after watching the clips, said he had instructed police to not use force against the protesters. He also requested a copy of the clipS so he can play them while demanding an explanation.

The deputy PM was summoned by the subcommittee to testify on the crackdown because his duties put him in charge of the Royal Thai Police.

Chalerm explained that he was not in charge of operations on the day in question because he was not the director of the operation centre, which was set up under the Internal Security Act. However, he said, he could not deny his responsibility as deputy prime minister in charge of police.

So he was not in charge of the operation centre at that time, so he is not responsible? How was in charge? Yingluck?. Who was in charge of CRES during the 2010 crackdown? Was it Abhisit? Does anyone actually take responsibility for anything in this country?

Looks like the director of the operations centre will be promoted to an inactive post shortly - and "justice" will seen to be served. All will again be happy in the land of sunshine and smiles.

I find it a little alarming that as Deputy PM and Minister responsible for Police, he has to wait for some journo's to show their clips (youtube has them), before he realises/admits that someone perhaps didn't follow orders. He seems to think that he is ok because he told police not to carry out violent actions on protestors and obviously someone in the police didn't follow orders. But Chalerm wants Abhisits balls even though Abhisit gave clear orders to soldiers, yet some soldiers may not have followed orders. Sweet! I hope the claims against Chalerm now come flooding in.

Well there's little chance of the DSI getting involved as he & his buddies control it. Victims should file charges in an independent court - before they are all PTP controlled.

I think he will do a thorough investigation and discover who let the media get a hold of their high handed actions. I am quite sure he specifically ordered them to not make it so obvious.

Heads will roll but not for their actions but because they let them selves be found out.

I really don't think claims for bruises and cuts from hefting the barriers out of the way and discomfort caused by teargas (especially if its your own) will be treated that serious by any courts but go ahead, should make cringeworthy reading as we hear about some right wing prada shopper explaining how her monumental hairdo collapsed after a good roughing up in the front lines whilst she saved us all from the evil Thaksin. And then there were the professionals;
