In the past, Phuket was a little different to other areas of Thailand in that those on an ED visa were permitted to make 12 month extensions. The cost was 1900THB.

That policy has now been changed and it is only possible to do a maximum ED visa extension of 6 months. The cost for the extension is still 1900THB.

Guess that the visa can be extended after 6 month, if the student is serious about his/her education.

People working illegally is not the subject, chances of the rules for an extension on an ED-visa in Phuket is the topic.

Phuket is indeed changing the rules and will be following the national rules more and more.

The reason for this that the system is/was abused a lot specially by Russian persons to stay long time on ED extensions without going to school. ( same as the medical extensions which is also changed )

1 year extension are still given for children attending school etc but not for most adults learning Thai.

last time i went they asked med to introduce my self 3 min in thai then write my name in thai, easy easy

but if you pay 500thb extra the school will take care of it! i guess that how the russians do it..

maybe the title should be changed to the word extension instead of visa? I guess a 6 month extension for 1900 baht is better than 2 visa runs, but do you have to walk in with any paperwork? Or you just walk in and request the extension?

Any extension of stay requires paperwork. For students that would be from school and your passport copies/TM.7 form and 1,900 baht fee.

Another thing is they start question people learning thai more then one year, i dont see anything wrong learning thai for years..

to speak and write thai perfekt takes many years if just go to your minimum 4 hours a week...
