May I request that true ex-servicemen stand down from this thread.

We didn't sign up to entertain trolls.

Agreed?

I'm with you Blether... I don't suffer fools lightly. I'm not sure what motivates some of the malcontents - perhaps they couldn't make the cut and are resentful of those who did. I classify this handful of trolls as Coots and Cranks - terribly unhappy guys who can't get it up anymore so they come here to vent their frustrated life by denigrating others without the slightest justification...

I know guys on here who are the real deal. I am not in their class and I would never pretend to be. We are though, all boys together.

Don't feed the trolls.

mrtoad Yesterday 12:13, LarryBird Yesterday, 08:26, Soutpeel Yesterday, 07:55 All liked a post by kurnell relating a story about a Yank soldier who proudly boasted he had killed 15 people in battle "including women and children."

I have known soldiers from many countries, Germans who were Nazi's and French Foreign Legionnaires and mercenaries in Africa. I've been with them when they were very drunk and when sober but I have never heard a one, not a one, brag about killing women and children.

Have you?

Have you ever heard of any soldier brag about killing women and children? Have you ever heard anyone brag about killing women and children?

I would wonder at the gullibility of any man who would believe a person would brag about killing women and children. Let alone say he liked a story about a man who bragged about killing women and children (unless the man was arrested and put in jail).

Then there is another story about another Yank at a big corporate meeting in Japan.

Rab have you ever been to a big corporate meeting in Japan? I have. Anyway this Yank according to a poster named Scorecard talks to this high level group of Japanese executives and, “

He strongly berated the Japanese for their activities in WWII.

- He spoke about how poorly trained Japanese soldiers were (WWII).

- He rubbished the samurai traditions.

- He spoke about how poor Japan was after WWII and mentioned at length how he and his buddies brought silk stockings for the Japanese girls they met in bars etc.”

Does this ring true? High level American CEO listening to this stuff along with high level Japanese executives? An American company doing business in Japan! Oh come on. It is nonsense. Never happen. And yet not one guy on Thai Visa points out the absolute nonsense, the incredible unlikelihood of such an act actually taking place.

You are talking about lying, phony soldiers and how easy it is to spot them. Can you really imagine a soldier bragging about killing women and kids and slagging Japanese cultural and military traditions while working for an American company working with the Japanese?

And you have chosen to take that post by Kurnell out of context to suit your own agenda. I beleive if I am not mistaken that at the end of that post he says that the bloke was a buffoon - and that's the point. I can understand why so many people don't want to listen to "Forces Stuff", it's a shame as there are some very intersting people who have served, with some remarkable stories - sadly there doesn't seem to be much of that on this thread - just a load of bickering, bullshit and bluster.

I agree with you. What follows is the post I questioned and the one you liked. "Working for a Thai-American company in 2003 I was asked to manage a new recruit, a yank who claimed to be part of the invasion of Panama and he proudly boasted he had killed 15 people in battle "including women and children", and would tell this to everyone he met as a conversation starter. When he was finally fired, 9 months later his kill tally had risen to 26. Yet one more in the long line of buffoons that I have met in Thailand."

One I don't think it is believable and two I don't think it is on topic at all. You said, "I can understand why so many people don't want to listen to "Forces Stuff", it's a shame as there are some very intersting people who have served, with some remarkable stories." Maybe you can tell me why you liked the above story which is not about forces stuff and an obvious sham story?

Guys, guys, guys... if everyone 'liked' the same posts as the other guy, then this forum would be a pretty mundane place.

Also, this thread would be half-a-page shorter and CMK's post count still shy of 4k.

Suggested IA for Brits:

1. Apply safety catch & prepare to move.

2. Reorg on ARRSE :)

(You won't find that in Pam 45!)

+

Was wondering how this would go down on ARRSE but thought maybe like a lead ballon

The post was made to show the ex serviceman was a prick, it only became an issue for chiangmaikelly when the word "yank" was added.

Ironic really.

You may be right. Put the slang name for another country in and see how many likes you get.smile.png It only became an issue for me when it was the second post that Yank was used and they both concerned non Special Forces Soldiers who were guilty of grave offenses under law and intolerable cultural behaviors.

I prefer, Septic.

Always makes me laugh when colonials become an authority on Cockney.

We had better clarify there Mr T for the benefit of the colonials, we aint talking seamen or navy.

The OP was looking for former members of the US or Australian special forces. If you want to discuss this, feel free. If you want to insult others, or get into silly arguments you can join the rest of the ones I just handed out suspensions to.

If you have a problem with someone's topic, move on and read any of the other tens of thousands available. Don't feel it your duty to make a pest of yourself. People here have the right to ask questions without being trolled by people with no ability to hold their tongue.

Unfortunately Paddy was killed along with 20 others, when their Sea King crashed into the sea in a freak accident that is thought to have been a bird strike,as the remains of an Albatross were found floating on the surface next to the crash site.

I lost a good mate on that helicopter. Also named Paddy, he'd survived an earlier helicopter crash on South Georgia and made a name for his self during the attack on Pebble Island. Know him?

I know Mick Williams, who was one of the survivors from that crash, they were cross decking from HMS Hermes to HMS Intrepid when the bird strike downed them.Do you actually know West Falkland or is this just BS?

Twenty of the best perished that night,I think the heaviest losses for The Regiment since the Second World War,a very, very bad night for all involved!I'm very sorry for the loss of your mate but no,I didn't know him,can you actually give the rest of his name?

I was at Two Sisters for that battle also but I think that I've said enough now,I seem to have opened a Pandora's Box here which was never my intention. To all the guys that gave me the bar recommendations cheers and I hope to see you all soon.

For the record I've always had fantastic relations with our American cousins across the pond and anyone who hasn't,just doesn't know those guys!

Just a quick note for the OP. Thank you. I don't always agree with war or the reasons for war, but I never doubt the courage and commitment of people that choose to use their life in the service of their country and its people. I am one of those people. So again, thank you.

Thank you 'the regiment' for your service. I spent 25 years in R.E.M.E. and was in Cambridge during the Falklands war. The R.E. unit I was with spent the next few years building a new runway there.

I met an SBS guy called 'two combs' when i was on a scuba course at Bovisand. My best time in the service was with the Gurkhas. The only danger i came near was in N.I. We lost a few guys to a big car bomb at our barracks Sandes home.

No problem fabianfred and thankyou for your service too.The whole reason I joined The Regiment originally was because of a friend at my school,he was a friend of my Father and he got a scholarship to Sandhurst.

Now obviously I'm not gonna mention too many names on here but he started off as a Second Leftenant in the Gurkha Rifles,as you know all of the Officers are foreigners in The Gurkha Rifles!

He then went into Military Intelligence and I haven't heard much of him since then, for obvious reasons!Anyways sorry but I've had a few tonight and I'm off to bed now, best of luck for you my friend.
