Popular Post shaggy1969
This post is a continuation from yesterdays undergrowth clearing. The charred remains. Having one tree on an area of land that needs plowing can be challenging...... a field full of trees must be a nightmare. Forwards and backwards, over and over again. Halfway done and things are starting to look better. Dirty, dusty work. Almost finished mate...... This is where I had to leave the action, the ladies volleyball practice was about to start again and I had a sideline seat with a couple colds beers in the coolbox waiting for me.....Life can be tough at the top sometimes NB,I did go back and have a look the next day at the finished job.........not a charred bit of soil in sight.Top Job !!!

All here. 10 vehicles... 5 tonne of Clarias... 1st day~ RBH, as you could guess, I loved this series. But one question. For 5 tonne of Clarias ... why are there 10 trucks? Really enjoyed viewing that ... Actually the turn over for that day was 13 trucks and the quota was 7.6 tonne. Depends on how much they want for that day. Some want 300kg only while some want 700kg and 1.2 tonne. Depends on their customers' order to deliver.

At MissFarmGirl's place, we deal with only one buyer who takes the entire catch. Explains a lot ... David48, In the very beginning i only have 1 wholesaler and he will bring in the rest of the convoy and he mark-up his price selling to them, also I'll be in a vulnerable situation/position in terms of dependency and bargaining power. I got squeezed badly back then. From there i moved forward and got into contract farming. After many years of socialising and associating. Now with my network of 36 wholesalers, I went independent. Thais call it Bo Seri (บ่อเสรี) I make the calls and set a farmgate price so every wholesalers get the same price, mark-ups eliminated... Popular Post kickstart
Ron, why in Pots? Re-sale later? Better soil conditions? Someother reason? [/qu A lot of farmers round here are planting the lime trees in the concrete rings,I thought it becouse lime trees do not like getting they feet wet, waterloging ,I planted 2 lime trees in our gargen, they did not 'do' to wet ,then I dug a deep hole filled it with stone ,re planted, they have never looked back, drainage. BUT, her that should be obeyed, the misses says in the concret rings they fruit quicker, need less water, again drainage, make more use of the fertillizer? Talking to a good Thai frind ,to-day looking round his garden,he had some lime trees in concrete tubs I said why to do with drainage he said ,it is a good way to force on limes. He said about mid December cover the tubs with plastic sheet/ bags, the soil will dry out ,do this for 3 weeks,by then the leaves will have droped, remove the sheeting /bags,feed and water the trees ,they will produce new leaves ,and hopfully fruit,in about April time ,when limes are expencive,I said March ,April it is very hot must be a problem,he said use a sprinkle system and some shade ,my mate has his under a a few trees, dork -kear trees, gives thm a bit of shade.
Popular Post samuijimmy
Potted corn, doing very well, at my local Hydroponic farm... still no sheep bleating yet.... still behind on construction! Baby Rosemary plants too... I assume it must be in demand at high end Hotels, or why grow so much of it? I think the Thai's would not like it!

Popular Post T_Dog
The pod appeared 16 weeks (112 days) ago and today the tree fell over. The fruit could probably have stayed on the tree for one more week but they should be okay. Our neighbors said when those little black tails grow out that it is close to being "sauk laew." Going to hang it above the dinner table!

David48
^^ That is a truely wonderful photo DASL. The bananas from both bottom right and left hand corners guide the eye towards the sun. The contrast in folage between the bananas and the trees. The '3D' effect by having 4 different layers and an excellent exposure. (Foreground foliage, bananas, trees and finally the sun) Somehow you have achieved some backfill lighting on the bananas despite having the light source (the sun) behind it. For me ... much to admire in that image ...

oldsailor35
after the eucalyptus were harvested/sold, waited about three weeks then burn-off the leaves/branches left behind I hired wife's nephew (15) and a group of his high school friends to help, cleared good fire-breaks as (not shown in this pic) the adjoining field had ready-to-harvest sugar owned by b-in-law that would so easily have gone up in flames. Had never done anything like this before and took advice from b-in-law, waited for a day with the 'right breeze' and slowly burnt it off in strips, boys had rakes and did a great job. Dried eucalyptus burns so fast, and we had a few 'moments' but the boys were on to it. Afterwards we found one baked snake, and the one missing rake (charred) after the burn-off, the stumps re-sprout with secondary growth and will be harvested again in 5 years. Rows were ploughed/plowed and fertiliser applied. You can see how close we were to the sugar in this pic In Queensland they burn the sugar off before harvesting ? David48
In Queensland they burn the sugar off before harvesting ? Not in the South-East any more ... all Green harvesting there now (my ex's man is a Cane Farmer). Up north ... in some places it still could be burnt. But my info is 5 or 6 years old. OH ... you still get the ash on your property still now in the SE ... they use the thrash to burn in a Co-Generation Electricity plant.

OH ... you still get the ash on your property still now in the SE ... they use the thrash to burn in a Co-Generation Electricity plant. I've been told that the reason farmers are turning away from burning before harvesting is that it has been found that burning lessens the quality of the final product.I imagine that the processers dropped the price paid for burnt cane delivered to the plant and the farmers had to take that into consideration.
