Dancealot
The buffalo seem to do well on the same sort of feed, don't see any skinny ones. Interesting observation, Robby. Cows and buffalo's have the same stomach which is split into four compartments. Perhaps they have a faster metabolism.

T_Dog
Ron posted a few pages back what a new banana probe looks like so I've been watching our banana tree. Eight days ago, overnight as he said, a two foot long pod appeared. This morning, 8 days later, we have our first bananas seeing the light of day. Can't wait to eat the first one! By the way, cannot seem to add a Flickr image. Did TV change how they embed photos?

Keep an eye on it over a week or more it will open up and you will see the individual hands appear and when the ones on the bottom of the bunch appear a lot smaller and a different colour it is time to remove what is left of the pod. For those that are interested, the images showing the different stage of the fruit forming are in post #3490 on page #140 of this thread.

Dancealot
By the way, cannot seem to add a Flickr image. Did TV change how they embed photos? It's not TV, T_Dog^^. Flickr changed the image view procedure. After selecting the desired picture just go to the right of the screen and select the 3 dots: … Then select Download/All sizes and proceed as usual. Popular Post kickstart
Buffalo's have a different metabolism than cows and can get more out of food than cattle ,also they do not walk so far as cattle ,and do not use so much enagey as buffalo's . I think its because of the poor quality feed they eat.Put them in a paddock with quality feed such as clover and ryegrass then you would find a different story. Grazing in the long paddock and looking at their condition tells me why thai beef is very tough. They all seem to look like that. About as much meat as my pushbike. The buffalo seem to do well on the same sort of feed, don't see any skinny ones. They are a lot of of young stock to with the cows . A cow when see calves will lose a lot of weight a natural thing to do,all cattle do it,,part of the reason they are so thin ,out grazing all day only picking what they can find ,grass no enagy /protine/ minrals then home ,put in a pen nothing to eat for 12 hours or may be

Popular Post Ron19
Thanks for the Flickr help! Thought I had tried everything but here we are. Day 11 after the pod appeared and six bunches of bananas are visible. Don't take the pod from the bottom just yet.Wait a bit longer for the change in what the bananas look like. When it reaches this stage the pod can be removed.Notice the change in the hand immediately on top of the pod.I would even be inclined to leave it until another one shows on the other side and then you can be sure that anymore that come out will be no good if it looks the same as the one already showing. Then it is time to remove what remains of the pod which can be used for cooking.

Popular Post Ron19
Sometime ago I posted this area with the channels being dug around 5 metres apart and couldn't work out what was going to be planted there.Well it looks like bananas to me and I haven't seen them planted like this before and still can't work out what the channels are for unless it's for drainage as the watering is being done on the tops at least for the dry season and once the plants are established, they don't need watering. Here's where the water is coming from a bore which you can see left of center and a little bit higher up. Edited March 30, 2014 by Ron19

Ron19
Small mangoes starting to fruit around the south now! Is it the same up north? Yes it's the same in the Uttaradit area but I have to say that every tree that I saw was literally covered in blossom and now from what I see the same trees have a very small percentage of fruit you would expect from that amount of blossom. While I have not seen every tree in the district, have not seen any with the amount that I can see in the image that you have posted.I have a theory that it could be because of the amount spraying that is used continuously on the rice paddies but I admit that may not be correct. Here is a tree across the road that is normally almost covered with mangoes but not so this year.
